The Toronto Blue Jays are coming off a heartbreaking finish to their 2025 season, as they fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 7 of the World Series. Toronto had unbelievable performances in the MLB postseason from star players like Vladimir Guerrero Jr., George Springer and Bo Bichette.
However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the onslaught from the Dodgers, who won their second straight World Series title.
As free agency and GM meetings begin, the manager John Schneider and the Blue Jays will look to add pieces to their team in their quest to win another American League pennant and get back to the Fall Classic in 2026.
There is a real possibility that Toronto will lose Bichette to another team this offseason, as he is one of the biggest names in free agency this winter. If the Blue Jays aren’t able to re-sign the star shortstop, they will be looking to add another key bat in the lineup.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan gave his take on who every postseason team should look to sign this offseason and said that the Blue Jays landing Kyle Tucker would be perfect for the team’s future.
“After trying in free agency for Shohei Ohtani, Juan Soto and Yoshinobu Yamamoto with no luck in recent years, this is precisely the time for the Blue Jays to make the biggest move of the winter by giving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. his left-handed complement,” Passan wrote. “Sign free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.”
Tucker, a former World Series champion with the Houston Astros, had a fantastic season with the Chicago Cubs in 2025 after he signed a one-year, $16.5 million deal with them last offseason.
Tucker hit .266 with an .841 OPS, 22 home runs and 73 RBIs with Chicago in 2025. Still just 28 years old, Tucker will likely be looking for a long-term contract before next season.
As the Blue Jays look to get back to October baseball, Tucker may be just what they need this winter.
