The Toronto Blue Jays came up one run short in Game 7 of the World Series this year, and it’s hard to imagine them putting together a better team next season.
Star infielder Bo Bichette is headed to free agency. While the Blue Jays will likely be one of the top suitors in his free agency sweepstakes, there’s bound to be a handful of other teams interested in the star, too.
ESPN’s David Schoenfield recently listed the San Francisco Giants as the best fit for Bichette this offseason, which would be a nightmare for the Blue Jays.

“Bichette’s free agency will be fascinating,” Schoenfield wrote. “Given his poor defensive metrics at shortstop, it’s almost a certainty teams will be looking at him as a second or third baseman rather than a shortstop — even the Blue Jays (the team he has been with his entire career), who would move Andres Gimenez to shortstop. That’s not a bad thing for Bichette, as it opens up his possible destinations to more teams if he’s willing to change positions.”
The Giants make plenty of sense as a suitor for Bichette as a second baseman. They already have Willy Adames and Matt Chapman signed to big contracts on the left side of the infield.
The Giants need to do whatever they can to close the gap on the Los Angeles Dodgers. Adding Bichette would be expensive and risky, but it would certainly help them close the gap a bit.
