Federal Election Commission filings have revealed that progressive Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, has spent nearly $75,000 on luxury accommodations, transportation, and security during her travels across several major cities in the United States. These expenditures have raised eyebrows given her representation of Texas’ 30th Congressional District, which encompasses Dallas.
The detailed filings indicate a total of $25,748.87 allocated for high-end hotels and limousine services since January. Notably, spending includes $4,175.01 at the Ritz-Carlton and $2,304.79 at The Luxury Collection, with additional costs of $5,326.52 at the West Hollywood Edition in Los Angeles and over $2,000 at both the Cosmopolitan and Aria resorts in Las Vegas. Furthermore, hotel expenses also detail payments such as $1,173.92 at the Times Square Edition in New York City and costs at two inns in Martha’s Vineyard totaling $5,864.07.
In addition to her hotel expenses, Crockett’s campaign disbursed nearly $50,000 on security services, which contradicts her previous calls to defund the police. In 2021, while serving in the Texas House, she expressed that the “Defund movement” aims to foster community healing and address crime’s root causes. Her stark departure from this advocacy has not gone unnoticed, especially amid scrutiny from her critics.
Crockett’s campaign also made notable payments for transportation services, including amounts of $2,728.00 to Transportation 4 U, a Chicago-based limousine service, and $2,310.30 to DCA Car LLC, among others. Transportation 4 U featured a picture of her on their Yelp page, showcasing her casual appearance while receiving their services during a visit to Chicago.
Moreover, the congresswoman has been speculating about a run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican John Cornyn, who is currently in a tough primary race against Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton and Houston-area Representative Wesley Hunt. Crockett has indicated her serious consideration of the Senate bid, sharing that she is planning to gather data to assist her decision-making process.
Over the past year, Crockett has also found herself embroiled in numerous controversies, including derogatory remarks about Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who is paraplegic, referring to him as “Governor Hot Wheels” in a public address. Although she later claimed her comments were misinterpreted, the incident sparked outrage. Additionally, she has faced scrutiny for making controversial remarks regarding both Elon Musk and Senator Ted Cruz.
In defending fellow Democrats, Crockett commended Jay Jones, the recently elected Democratic Attorney General of Virginia, despite his own troubling remarks that involved fantasizing about violent actions against a Republican lawmaker. Despite the backlash surrounding Jones, Crockett praised the Democratic Party for not abandoning him, emphasizing a focus on the political landscape rather than distractions.
As these developments unfold, criticism regarding her spending habits and statements continues to mount, reflecting broader discussions surrounding accountability and integrity within political spheres.
