Marta Xargay Casademont is a retired athlete born in Girona, Spain, on December 20, 1990.
Aside from playing across Europe on teams in Spain, the Czech Republic, and Russia; Marta was a member of the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury.
A native of Girona, Marta began playing basketball as a child. She signed with CB Avenida in 2009 before joining the WNBA in 2015.
During her career, she participated in the Rio 2016 Olympics, two World Championships, and five European Championships.
In 2021, Marta revealed she was retiring from basketball via Instagram.

Breanna Stewart and Marta Xargay first met in 2018 while they were both members of the Russian team, Dynamo Kursk.
Stewart proposed to Marta in May 2020, and the two tied the knot the following July.
Their relationship kicked off after Breanna ruptured her Achilles tendon.
Breanna touched on the origin of their relationship in the short YouTube film TOGETHXR x Bleacher Report.
“I just remember like being in such a place where it was like, you know, something terrible happened, and then at the same time something amazing happened,” Breanna recalled.
“Me being injured was like a blessing in disguise.
“Those moments and memories were huge for kind of what helped blossom our relationship into what it is.”

Just one month after their wedding, the couple welcomed their first daughter together via surrogate.
Ruby Mae Stewart-Xargay was born two days after Stewart won an Olympic gold medal at the Tokyo Games.
On May 14, 2023, Breanna took to Instagram to announce they were expecting again.
“When 3 turns to 4… Oct. 2023 🍼👶🏻,” she captioned a series of pictures including one featuring Marta’s growing baby bump. “Happy Mother’s Day! 💐❤️”
On October 25, their son Theo Josep Stewart Xargay was born.
“Welcome to the world little man,” Breanna shared on Instagram with a photo of picture of Ruby holding her baby brother.
“Your mama was a trooper.”
