The Indiana Fevers player, Sophie Cunningham has been on the sidelines due to injury. Yet, she became the centre of attention following a recent situation that took place on the WNBA court itself.
This involved her confrontation with a member of the local police authority which was caught on camera and made headlines all over social media.

On Thursday night, the Indiana Fevers competed against the Atlanta Dream. During the fourth quarter of the match, Fever guard Odyssey Sims had a collision with Alisha Gray from the Dream. This led to Sims dropping to the ground, which led to the referees reviewing it for a flagrant foul.Amidst that, Sophie Cunningham rushed to the centre of the court to check on Odyssey Sims, who was lying on the ground. Just then, a police officer asked her to step back as she approached Sims. This led to an exchange of words; however, moments later, Cunningham chose to back down. A possible reason could be Cunningham not cladded in her WNBA, but street clothes, leading to the police officer failing to recognise her. You can check out the confrontation below on X.
Sophie Cunningham is dealing with an injury
Sophie Cunningham had to watch from the sidelines as the Indiana Fevers beat the Atlanta Dream with the final score line being 87-85. The victory marked the first time since 2015 that the Fevers made it to the second round of the WNBA playoffs. Cunningham did not play the match as she suffered a major injury over a month ago.The Indiana Fever’s guard tore her right MCL upon a collision with Bria Hartley during a match against the Connecticut Sun. Despite that, Cunningham is expected to recover in time for the 2026 WNBA season. As for her team, Fevers will square off against the Las Vegas Aces in the semi-finals, with Game 1 taking place on Sunday.
On the other hand, Sophie Cunningham has garnered major attention following the confrontation with the police officer that took place.
