Nationwide — Tamika Jackson, a school bus monitor from New Orleans, Louisiana, was hospitalized after she was allegedly attacked by a student and the student’s mother during a dispute over bus seating. The fight, which was caught on video, left Jackson with severe injuries, including bite marks and deep cuts.
Jackson’s husband, Johnny Jackson, said she was rushed to the emergency room. Her injuries included pulled hair, scratches, and bite marks on her face, lips, and hands. “She has a large gash running across her face,” he told WLBT.
Jackson said the conflict started when his wife told the student she could not sit in the last two rows of the bus. He explained that students had been gathering there for weeks, and his wife suspected they were engaging in inappropriate behavior.
Despite her injuries, Tamika Jackson was issued a Municipal Court summons for disturbing the peace. Her husband criticized police for treating the situation as a “routine fight” until they could review the video evidence.
The New Orleans Police Department said no official police report has been filed. InspireNOLA Charter Schools, which oversees McDonogh 35, confirmed it is investigating and stated that student and staff safety remains a top priority.
