Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about her advocacy for type 1 diabetes screening at Hello Sunshine’s Shine Away event on Saturday, October 11, 2025, Chrissy Teigen shared her thoughts on her friendship with Meghan Markle. Reflecting on her appearance in season 2 of Meghan’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan, the 39-year-old model praised the Duchess of Sussex for her strength and kindness.

“I adore her,” Teigen said of Meghan, 44. “I really adore her. I think she is so incredibly strong.” Teigen went on to describe how it’s “insane” to her that Meghan remains such a polarizing figure. Despite this, Teigen emphasized that Meghan’s intentions are simple: she is a “kind, good person” who genuinely wants the best for her friends, her family, and her children.
Teigen also acknowledged the scrutiny Meghan faces, noting that the Duchess’ actions and choices are not made with public perception in mind. “She just wants those things,” Teigen explained. “And people come up with all these different things that she could be about or what she wants, but it’s not that complicated.” Teigen further expressed her belief that people tend to “read into what they want to read into” and “hyperfocus” on what they believe to be true, regardless of the reality. Meghan, she added, is unfazed by the negative attention: “I’m happy and I’m healthy and I feel good,” Teigen recalled Meghan saying.

When asked about the possibility of arranging playdates for their children, Teigen joked about her tendency to stay home. She explained that she rarely leaves the house, even for work, preferring to do most of her photoshoots and activities at home. “I’m not joking,” Teigen laughed. “I don’t go anywhere. I try to do every photo shoot, every everything at our house.” However, she added, if the opportunity arose, she’d absolutely be open to a playdate with Meghan and Prince Harry’s children—Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Teigen’s involvement in the event was particularly personal. She has become a vocal advocate for type 1 diabetes care and early screening, after her son Miles was diagnosed with the disease. Reflecting on her family’s journey, Teigen expressed gratitude for the support she and her family received through Sanofi’s Screen For Type 1 initiative. “We’re so lucky to have had Sanofi engage us in being able to talk about early detection and early screening for T1D,” she told PEOPLE. “It itself created a community—where we felt like we had people that genuinely cared about the questions that we had.”
Teigen recalled the overwhelming emotions she and her husband, John Legend, felt when Miles was first diagnosed. “We were really scared, we were really nervous,” she admitted. “I probably played it really cool, just because I’m used to a lot of chaotic things happening all the time, but I had no idea how much I would have to learn, how quickly.” For Teigen, learning about early detection and screening for type 1 diabetes has become a deeply personal mission. “It means a lot to me, because I know how much it would have meant to have a few extra months, or weeks even, instead of being completely thrown into something that you had no idea about,” she shared.
Teigen further expressed that a sense of community, which she and her family only discovered later on, would have been incredibly helpful during those initial stages. “To be able to build the community that we’ve found around it earlier would have been really wonderful,” she said, recalling how quickly everything happened. “People were like, ‘We have help for you. We know all these tips and tricks for everything.’ We didn’t have those things in our arsenal. It just would help so much.”

As she continues her advocacy, Teigen remains focused on raising awareness and offering support to others navigating the challenges of type 1 diabetes. Through her journey, she’s learned that even the smallest moments of support can make an enormous difference in a family’s experience with the disease.
