After Joy Behar missed several days of The View due to a foot injury, viewers may have been disappointed to find Whoopi Goldberg missing from the ABC broadcast Monday (Nov. 17) morning.
But the actress and EGOT winner had an exciting reason for her absence: She is currently in Italy filming a guest appearance on a popular Italian soap opera, Behar explained. Goldberg even shared a video message to give viewers a glimpse of what she’s been up to.
“We’re in Naples and I’m a little nervous. This is my first day,” Goldberg admitted in a video. In another clip, the Sister Act star admitted filming the role has been “very nerve wracking.”
Goldberg announced earlier this year that she will be taking a multi-episode role in the Italian soap opera Un Poste Al Sole.
Sunny Hostin shared during Monday’s broadcast that Goldberg told her a bit about the new role.
“She plays an American and she moved into this apartment complex,” Hostin said. “It’s a very famous soap opera. I have friends in Italy that are thrilled Whoopi’s going to be on the soap opera.”

Alyssa Farah Griffin also shared that she was surprised to hear Goldberg admit she was nervous.
“I love that EGOTs get nervous too,” Griffin pointed out. “I wouldn’t have expected it.”
Goldberg announced the news on social media while vacationing in Italy this past summer.
“I just wanted to stop in and say how happy I am to be joining the cast of Un Posto Al Sole. They know it’s a crazy idea, I know it’s a crazy idea, but what a wonderful thing to do. I’m looking forward to it. I’m excited,” she said at the time. “No, my Italian is not perfect, but we’ve worked it out. Ciao! See you on TV.”

Goldberg’s episodes of Un Posto Al Sole, which has been on the air since 1996, will premiere in 2026.
It remains unclear when Goldberg will return to The View.
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
