The TODAY anchor has a detailed morning routine but includes time for his kids.
Craig Melvin is on his way to work long before his children even wake up, but his morning routine includes a special step that helps him stay connected to them.

In a new interview with Garden & Gun, the TODAY anchor shared a look into his hectic pre-work schedule, which he has timed down to the minute.
Before TODAY starts airing live at 7 a.m. ET, Craig has to pack in a few work essentials, like reading the production team’s notes, and some relaxing practices like journaling and meditation. But the father of two also takes a moment to send a quick message to his two children Delano, 11, and Sybil, 8.

“Because he can’t be home when Del and Sibby wake up, he sends them special messages through a device called Lovebox. The theme is always the same: I love you, and I’m proud of you,” the article reads.
For those who are unfamiliar with Lovebox, it’s a messaging device that can be paired with an app to send messages to another Lovebox. When a message arrives, the heart attached to the box spins.
In 2024, Craig released his first children’s book, titled, “I’m Proud of You.” To mark the occasion, his son Delano interviewed him for TODAY and asked what inspired him to write the book.
Aside from wanting his children to know that he’s proud of them, Craig said he had another motivation.
“I wanted to write a book that celebrated fatherhood. That celebrated you. That celebrated your sister. That celebrated, like, just being a parent. And I wanted to write something that you would enjoy,” he said.

Craig went on to explain how he’s “proud of the little stuff” his children do, along with their major accomplishments.
“I remember when you tied your shoes the first time. I remember when you made your first basket. I wanted to write something that celebrated the small things,” he said.
Earlier this year, Craig’s children and his wife Lindsay Czarniak surprised him on the set of TODAY to celebrate his first day as co-anchor.
When Craig spotted his family, he became emotional and wiped away tears. It was a moment for them to return the favor and tell him just how proud of him they are.
“It’s surreal, and to me, it symbolizes belief because you know, you dare to dream a dream and then to see it actually come true, it makes me think about a spouse making it to the Super Bowl, or like, the game-winning catch. That’s what this feels like,” Czarniak said.
Delano later chimed in, saying, “He’s a great dad and he deserves to be here, and I’m happy that he’s here.”
