The trailer for season two of Máxima, the series chronicling the life of Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, hints that the Argentine-born royal experienced cold feet before her wedding to Willem-Alexander. The dramatic clip features the couple—portrayed by Delfina Chaves and Martijn Lakemeier—walking down the aisle, while a voiceover reveals Maxima’s inner thoughts: “I thought I was going to be super excited. But now the only thing I can think about is – am I ready? What the hell am I getting myself into?”

The scene then cuts to the priest asking the bride, “What is your answer?” to which Maxima smiles and replies, “Yes.” Delfina wears a detailed replica of Maxima’s ivory Valentino gown with an embroidered veil, while Martijn dons the Royal Netherlands Navy uniform that Willem-Alexander wore on their wedding day, capturing the historic moment with cinematic detail.
Season one of the series, which aired in the Netherlands in April 2024, focused on Maxima’s early life and the beginnings of her relationship with Willem-Alexander. Season two will cover the wedding preparations and follow the couple through the first decade of their marriage, culminating in Willem-Alexander’s inauguration as king. The season is set to stream on Videoland from 14 March 2026.

In real life, Maxima was visibly emotional on her wedding day, wiping away tears during the ceremony. Her parents, Jorge Zorreguieta and Maria del Carmen Cerruti, were absent due to controversy surrounding her father’s role as Argentina’s agriculture minister during the country’s Dirty War (1974–1982), a period that saw approximately 30,000 people killed or disappeared. Although he was not accused of direct involvement, it was alleged he knew of the atrocities and did nothing to intervene. As a result, he was barred from attending the wedding despite Parliament approving the marriage.

Reflecting on the situation before her nuptials, Maxima said, “As a daughter I find it terrible that my father won’t be there, but that’s the way it is, and I understand the feelings of the Dutch on the question.” On 2 February 2002, Maxima and Willem-Alexander were married at Amsterdam’s Nieuwe Kerk. They later became king and queen in 2013 following Queen Beatrix’s abdication and are parents to Princess Catharina-Amalia, 21, Princess Alexia, 20, and Princess Ariane, 18.
Season two of Máxima promises to explore not only the romance and pageantry of the royal wedding but also the complex family dynamics and public scrutiny that shaped the young queen’s early years. Through a mix of dramatized personal reflection and historical context, the series gives viewers a deeper understanding of Maxima’s journey from Argentine outsider to a central figure in the Dutch monarchy.
