After a disappointing opener against the Commanders, the Giants will play another NFC East rival in Week 2.
New York will travel to Dallas to take on the Cowboys, who also lost their Week 1 matchup. The Cowboys lost 24-20 to the Eagles in the opening game of the 2025 season.
Both squads made notable offseason moves with the Giants drafting Abdul Carter No. 3 overall and Jaxson Dart late in the first round. The Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers in exchange for a package including two first-round picks.
This will be the Cowboys’ home opener as they look to snag their first victory of the 2025 season. The Giants continue their road trip to start the year, and will debut at home in Week 3 against the Chiefs.

Lions Coach Ends Roster Hopes for Former Round 3 Bust Before Final Preseason Game
Detroit, MI – August 19, 2025
The Detroit Lions entered the final stretch of preseason hoping for clarity at quarterback, but instead one once-promising prospect has become the face of frustration. Two consecutive games have highlighted shortcomings too glaring to ignore.
In the battle for a backup role, the Lions needed consistency and security. Instead, poor showings in back-to-back preseason outings have turned a former third-round pick into more of a liability than a solution.
Hendon Hooker, drafted by Detroit in 2023, delivered two shaky performances. Against the Falcons, he managed just 38 passing yards while losing two fumbles, forcing an early benching that immediately raised questions about his readiness.
Head coach Dan Campbell didn’t mince words afterward. “You’ve got to protect the football. That’s the foundation. If you can’t do that, then no matter how well you throw, it doesn’t matter,”he blasted.

Hooker showed slight improvement against the Dolphins with 117 passing yards, but missed opportunities and poor adjustments overshadowed the stat line. Two games, two disappointments — and the sense of trust surrounding him continues to evaporate.
Once viewed as a long-term project after shining at Tennessee, the NFL reality has been harsher. At 27 years old, failing to deliver in preseason may well close the door on his Detroit aspirations.
His rookie deal — four years, $5.7 million with a 2025 cap hit north of $1.5 million — isn’t crushing financially, but it forces the front office to weigh the value of trading or releasing him early.
Being left off the roster for the Texans game effectively ends his chance to make a final impression. From once-promising third-round pick to a preseason disappointment, Hooker’s dream in Detroit appears to be slipping away fast.
