“Today” show host Dylan Dreyer has followed in the footsteps of Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager by quitting New York City life in favor of relocating to the suburbs—revealing how she and her sons celebrated their first Halloween in their new home, months after she announced she had split from her husband, Brian Fichera.
The 44-year-old TV personality—who revealed in July that she and Fichera, 38, had separated—broke her silence on her breakup for the first time on Nov. 5, when she appeared as a co-host on “Today With Jenna & Friends.”
Having been asked by Jenna Bush Hager how life has been as a single woman, Dreyer took the opportunity to hit back at those who have criticized her separation, saying: “I appreciate everyone’s comments that have spoken up about my life and our decisions and what we have decided as a family, thank you for your opinions on that.
She went on to share some insight into how her relationship with her former spouse has evolved since their decision to end their marriage, insisting that they still have a very close bond, regardless of the fact that it is no longer romantic.
“Everybody has their reasons for what leads to a separation or divorce. That’s another story with a lot of wine and that’s a whole different thing, but either way we’ve gotten to this place,” she shared.
“And there’s something freeing, I think, for Brian and I where—whatever reasons, whatever broke in a marriage—you could either fix it if you can and ideally you would and you try, and you try to fix things. Or you accept that it’s broken and you take this new step forward.”
Her candid comments about her separation from Fichera—with whom she shares three sons, Calvin, 9, Oliver, 5, and Rusty, 3—come just days after Dreyer opened up about her new life in the suburbs of Long Island, having quit New York City in the wake of her split.

Following the Halloween weekend, Dreyer revealed how she and her family celebrated the spooky holiday, explaining: “We moved out of the city so this is their first Halloween in the suburbs. This was their first suburban Halloween.”
And it seems all three of her sons were eager to take advantage of their new community by not only trick or treating, but also handing out candy to their new neighbors.
“At 5:30 p.m. they were already tired, but then Rusty manned the door for two hours!” she shared while flashing up photos and videos of the kids enjoying their night.
Dreyer added that, despite many older kids approaching their front door, her youngest son stayed strong and refused to give out more than one piece of candy to each trick or treater, noting that Rusty seemed to relish the power of his new role.
“After dark, it’s a lot of high school and older kids that come and he was handing out one piece of candy for each person and he kept looking over his shoulder. He loved it,” she said.
