Queen Maxima and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands’ iconic wedding is set to take center stage in season two of the royal drama Máxima. A first look released on February 25 shows actors Delfina Chaves and Martijn Lakemeier portraying the royal couple at the altar, with Delfina wearing a meticulously recreated replica of Maxima’s Valentino wedding gown.

The actress previously told HELLO! USA that she was thrilled about stepping into the Queen’s shoes for the nuptial scenes, admitting, “I think that’s gonna be, that’s my favorite,” while confessing she was already feeling nervous ahead of filming.

Produced by Millstreet Films in collaboration with FBO and Beta Film, season two of Máxima is currently in production. Renewed before its debut last April, the series promises to continue weaving together Maxima’s personal journey with the demands of royal life. Producer Rachel van Bommel told Variety that, similar to the first season, archive footage will be used for key wedding scenes, creating a seamless blend of historical accuracy and dramatization. Van Bommel also teased that the second season will be more expansive, covering palatial settings, life-and-death events such as births and funerals, and the ongoing challenges of maintaining public favor—all while balancing engaging storytelling with a light tone amid the drama.
Based on Marcia Luyten’s biography Máxima Zorreguieta: Moederland, the series explores the life of the Argentine-born Queen and her adaptation to Dutch royal life. Beta Film’s description of season two highlights Maxima’s journey as she prepares for her wedding: she navigates her new home, wins over the Dutch people, and learns firsthand that royal life is governed by rules, from court etiquette to even the restrictions surrounding her wedding dress. As a spirited and independent Argentine, Maxima’s occasional resistance to protocol generates tension, particularly with Queen Beatrix, who prioritizes the monarchy’s traditions.
The season spans from the royal wedding through the first decade of her reign, culminating in Willem-Alexander’s coronation. Maxima’s struggle to reconcile her personal ambitions with the responsibilities of motherhood and her role as heir to the throne forms the emotional core of the series. Audiences can expect a dramatic, yet intimate portrayal of the Queen’s life as she learns to balance authenticity with duty, all while stepping into her position within the Dutch royal house.

Season two of Máxima promises not only a closer look at Maxima’s wedding and early years as Queen, but also a deep dive into the complex dynamics of family, tradition, and public life that continue to shape her legacy.
