This week, Chiefs Wire’s Ed Easton Jr. spoke to former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith about his partnership with Crown Royal, the Official Whisky of the NFL. He also shared his thoughts on the quarterback rivalry between Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
“Yeah, just pumped to be a part of the roster. This NFL Legends roster, partnering with Crown Royal, celebrates their fifth year as the official whiskey sponsor of the NFL, which is cool, and then does some awesome stuff for fans,” said Smith. “They’re going to have a semi-truck called the Crown Royal Rig that’s going to make stops at ten cities. It is coming to Kansas City this weekend for the big game with the (Baltimore) Ravens.”
The Crown Royal Rig will be stopping at Arrowhead Stadium with Tony Gonzalez and Taylor Rooks on Lot O at Arrowhead Stadium this Sunday ahead of the Chiefs’ Week 4 game against the Ravens. Fans will be sure to stop by for a chance to hang out with Tony and Taylor, enjoy Crown Royal cocktails, and even receive premium ticket upgrades to elevate your game day.
Smith, a three-time Pro Bowler with the Chiefs, understands the importance of facing off against other great quarterbacks. He gave his take on the rivalry between Mahomes and Jackson ahead of their latest battle this Sunday.
“There’s a competitiveness there for without a doubt, again, it’s as much attention as the media puts on it, as quarterbacks, you always know the wins and losses and how much credit you get and or blame is always exaggerated. You’re going to be talking about your record head-to-head, always. How did you stack up? Patrick has gotten the better of virtually every quarterback you know come playoff time,” said Smith, “Certainly Lamar and Josh (Allen), his contemporaries on the AFC side, have had some success in the regular season, but haven’t been able to get it done in the postseason. Both these guys want to beat each other, no doubt. They don’t get to play each other; they’re playing their opposing defenses.”
Mahomes and Jackson have two league MVP awards in their career resumes, while the Chiefs quarterback holds the edge in Super Bowl titles. Smith believes the effectiveness of the team’s defense will be the key in the matchup.
“I think the Chiefs will be happy to be back at Arrowhead. They’ll have the crowd noise; it’s such an unbelievable home-field advantage. Hopefully, the D-Line, obviously, can take advantage of Spags (Steve Spagnuolo) with all the movement in disguise that he likes to do. The Chiefs’ offense should hopefully get back on track as they become a little healthier. The young offensive line, especially the left side, gains more experience,” said Smith, “This is a kind of reeling Ravens defense right now, really talented, but it’s obviously not played well these first three weeks. We saw this last season with them; they started this season off poorly and, through the first eight games, didn’t play well at all. However, they were able to improve and really turn it around. All of a sudden, by the end of the year, they were one of the best defenses. I know that this is a prideful group, this Ravens culture. They have a history of playing pretty good defense, and so they’re looking to rebound and get better from those first three weeks.”
Award-winning whisky brand Crown Royal is proudly returning for its fifth year as the Official Whisky Sponsor of the NFL, once again hitting the road and driving generosity nationwide with the iconic Crown Royal Rig.
