The center failed to make the 53-man roster and was cut by the Raiders on Tuesday, although he is reportedly set to join its practice squad. Meanwhile, Ionescu has established herself as a star in the WNBA.
Across the 2023 WNBA season, Ionescu is averaging 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists. Her performances have translated to wins, too; the Liberty sit atop the Eastern Conference with a 28-7 record – the second-best across the league.
During the All-Star break in July, Ionescu tallied 37 points in the Three-Point Contest to set a new all-time record in WNBA and NBA history. Her score beat the previous record of 31, set by Golden State Warriors icon Stephen Curry, after the 25-year-old connected on 25 of her final 27 attempts.
