The New York Liberty greatly missed one of their star players, Breanna Stewart, in the defeat against the Minnesota Lynx. However, the silver lining here is that Stewart may be inching closer to a return.
When the forward was injured against the Los Angeles Sparks, the Liberty management immediately feared the worst. Initial discussions were that she might be out for a long spell. The Liberty star has now shared her return timeline.
Breanna Stewart said, “I feel great. I just finished working out on the court in the back. And it’s really just kind of giving my leg, the bone, a little bit of time while we have it. But hoping to be back sooner than later, and really just wanting to be back with my team.”
Breanna Stewart addressed media today, as she works back from the knee injury that has her sidelined since July 26. She says her timeline for return is before her birthday on August 27. @Winsidr pic.twitter.com/3fUxdQ3aGm— Myles (@MylesEhrlich) August 10, 2025
Stewart also suggested that she was hoping to be back before her 31st birthday, which is August 27. It is only two weeks before the New York Liberty expects the return of their key forward and leadership presence.
Liberty Collapse after Lynx Third-quarter Blitz

Both teams had a balancing start to the game, with the Lynx taking a one point lead through a 25-24 score. In the second quarter, the home side put up a defensive grit performance, snatching back the lead by 14-11. Both teams noted down their intensity.
However, the Minnesota Lynx’s third quarter performance blew their opponents by 30-19. This effectively ended any chance of a comeback for the home side in front of their fans. The Lynx held onto their share in the final 10 minutes and registered an 83-71 win.
