Bruce Bochy is returning to San Francisco.
The longtime Giants manager who won three World Series titles and legend status with the organization will serve as a special adviser to president of baseball operations Buster Posey, his former catcher, the team announced Monday.
“Having Boch back in the organization means a great deal to all of us,” Posey said in a statement. “His experience, leadership, and feel for the game are unmatched, and his perspective will be invaluable as we continue building towards sustained success.”

Added Bochy: “I couldn’t be more excited to reconnect with the Giants organization and so many familiar faces. This organization and city mean a lot to me and my family, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute in any way I can.”
Bochy, 70, managed the Giants for 12 seasons — leading them to a World Series title in 2010, the team’s first since 1954, and two after — and briefly retired following the 2019 season and served as a special adviser for three years. The Texas Rangers hired him as their manager for 2023 and he guided them to the organization’s first World Series championship. Bochy is the sixth manager in baseball history to win at least four championships, putting him on the fast track to Baseball Hall of Fame induction.
Before landing in San Francisco in 2007, Bochy managed the San Diego Padres from 1995 to 2006. His 2,252 managerial wins are sixth most in MLB history; that kind of experience will come in handy for new Giants manager Tony Vitello, who has no professional baseball experience.
