Jenna Bush Hager is no stranger to parenting in the public eye — or to failing in it. And according to the Today with Jenna & Friends co-host, that’s exactly why she worries about a growing cultural shift she believes could be hurting today’s kids.
During an intimate conversation with Monica Lewinsky on a Feb. 19 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, the 43-year-old mother of three spoke candidly about a parenting fear that weighs heavily on her: the fear that children are no longer allowed to fail.
Bush Hager, who shares daughters Mila and Poppy and son Hal with husband Henry Hager, reflected on how her own setbacks — many of them witnessed by the entire country — shaped the person she is now. She said those low moments ultimately became a kind of strength.
“It’s actually my biggest concern as a mom,” she admitted. “I don’t think our kids are allowed to fail. And I failed publicly, and it’s actually what makes me, I feel like, my superpower.”
She went on to explain that real resilience doesn’t come from things going right, but from learning how to get up when they go wrong.
“I feel brave because you can come out of something,” she said. “We need to teach kids that they can come out of things.”
The topic of failure is more than theoretical for her — it’s woven into her family life. And often, her own children provide very unfiltered reminders that no parent is immune to humbling moments.
In a recent interview with E! News, Bush Hager shared that since Hoda Kotb’s departure from the show, she hasn’t asked her family to pitch in on-air — at least, not officially. But one person is more than ready: her 11-year-old daughter Mila.
“She really wants to do it,” Bush Hager laughed.

There’s only one problem: Mila is technically banned.
The ban came after a previous appearance in which young Mila delivered a few “truth bombs” that left her mother red-faced — and left Henry Hager declaring she was no longer allowed on set.
“She said something very controversial,” Bush Hager recalled. “So therefore, my husband gave her a lifetime ban.”
The ban may eventually be lifted — perhaps on Bring Your Kids to Work Day, she hinted — but for now, Mila’s microphone privileges remain revoked.
Bush Hager said with a smile that while she loves Mila’s confidence, her daughter “hasn’t always been the most supportive,” especially when she shares stories her mother would prefer not be nationally televised.
Mila’s most notorious on-air moment came back in January 2022, during a guest appearance on Today with Hoda & Jenna. After playfully revealing that the family planned to adopt a cat, she was asked whether she knew what Hoda Kotb loved most about her mother.
Kotb chimed in warmly: “You know when I love her the most, Mila? When she’s laughing so hard she can’t catch her breath.”
Without hesitation, Mila fired back with a story worthy of a sitcom — and mortifying for her mother.
“Yeah, one time she was laughing in our living room and she peed her pants!” she announced. “You changed your pajamas!”
Bush Hager could only sit in stunned embarrassment as her daughter delivered the punchline to millions watching at home.
“Thank you, Mila,” she said dryly at the time. “Thank you so much.”https://www.instagram.com/p/DGN99ZZAkFd/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=14&wp=540&rd=https%3A%2F%2Fviewfindernews.com&rp=%2Fbtvkhanhhuyen%2Fhuyen7-jenna-bush-hager-just-revealed-the-one-parenting-fear-she-cannot-shake-and-its-something-she-believes-could-shape-or-shatter-her-childrens-future-in-a-startlingly-hones%2F%3Ffbclid%3DI#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A3241.800000011921%2C%22ls%22%3A631.1999999880791%2C%22le%22%3A3236.5%7D
It’s moments like these — unscripted, unfiltered, and slightly chaotic — that remind Bush Hager how unpredictable parenting can be.
As the daughter of former President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush, Bush Hager knows firsthand what it means to grow up under public scrutiny. And now, as a TV personality and mother, she is committed to giving her own children a different kind of foundation — one rooted not in perfection, but in courage.
Bush Hager believes failure is crucial for building character, confidence, and grit. And she worries that today’s world — with its curated social media feeds, hyper-awareness of public perception, and cultural pressure to “get everything right” — is stripping that away from kids.
She wants her children to see that failure isn’t something to fear or hide, but something to grow through. It’s a message she reinforces at home through meaningful nightly mantras she says are designed to “infuse goodness” into the beginning and end of each day.
Her hope is that by normalizing setbacks, her kids won’t crumble under inevitable challenges — whether they’re navigating friendships, academics, sports, or simply the awkwardness of growing up.
Ultimately, Bush Hager’s parenting philosophy is a blend of honesty, humility, and humor. She freely acknowledges that raising three outspoken, spirited kids often leads to spontaneous comedy and unexpected lessons — sometimes broadcast on national television.
But she insists that these imperfect moments make life richer. They build resilience. They teach humility. And they remind her that parenting, at its core, is about guiding kids through real experiences, not shielding them from them.
Failure, she believes, is one of the greatest teachers of all.
And if her daughter’s viral living-room confession is any indication, the Bush Hager household has no shortage of stories — or lessons — still to come.
