Prince William has emotionally reflected on the profound loss of his grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, admitting that their absence has been deeply felt as he navigates the changes in the royal family. Speaking candidly to comedian Eugene Levy, the Prince of Wales shared heartfelt memories and his personal struggles during a challenging year.

In an episode of The Reluctant Traveller, airing on Apple TV, William gave Levy a surprise tour of Windsor Castle, a place that holds special significance for him and his family. Asked about his feelings toward his late grandparents, William said, “I do actually, yeah, I do miss my grandmother, and my grandfather. It’s been quite a bit of change, so you do sort of think about them not being here anymore, and particularly being in Windsor, for me Windsor is her.”
He went on to explain how much Queen Elizabeth adored Windsor, especially due to her love for horses. “She loved it here, she spent most of her time here,” William said. “Showing you around today is very much a case of trying to make sure I’m doing it in the way she’d want you to see it. She had her horses here as well, as you can imagine that was a big deal for her so that’s why she loved it here.”
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s final resting place is in St George’s Chapel, within Windsor Castle—a deeply meaningful connection for the Prince of Wales.

William also revealed that 2024 has been an emotionally taxing year, describing it as “the hardest year I’ve ever had.” He shared this with Levy while discussing the challenges he faced, particularly his wife Catherine’s and father’s cancer treatments. “Life is said to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are,” William remarked.

The royal’s candid comments come in a special segment that will air on The Reluctant Traveller this Friday, showcasing a more personal side of the prince as he guides Levy through the historic castle. Their conversation also touched on lighter moments, with William humorously admitting, “When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.”

The episode highlights William’s role as a family man dealing with the weight of royal duties while managing personal challenges. It’s an intimate look at the man behind the crown—someone trying to keep his family strong while honoring the legacy of his late grandparents.
