Carson Daly is used to long hours, impossible schedules, and early mornings — but nothing prepared him for the moment he walked onto the set of The Voice for the very first time without Blake Shelton by his side. After 23 seasons of shared rituals, backstage jokes, and early morning hair-and-makeup sessions, Daly suddenly found himself facing a new era alone… and his reaction said everything.
On Instagram, Daly posted a photo of himself in the makeup chair, grimacing while pretending to cry as a stylist trimmed his hair. Draped in a cape, looking both amused and defeated, he captioned the moment with emotional sarcasm: “My first day ever shooting @nbcthevoice without @blakeshelton. We had a ritual of getting hair & makeup together for 23 seasons. I think I’m handling it well. Everything’s fine.”
Fans knew he was joking — but only partly. Shelton’s departure after Season 23 left a noticeable void. “This show has changed my life in every way for the better,” Shelton wrote when he announced he was stepping away. And for Daly, the man who shared the stage with him from day one, the absence was more than symbolic. It was a breakup of sorts… wrapped in cowboy charm and a decade of friendship.
Meanwhile, Daly has also been juggling his duties at Today, where he recently shocked his co-hosts by blurting out a slang phrase he immediately regretted. During a PopStart segment hyping Olivia Rodrigo, Daly excitedly proclaimed: “New York is showing up and showing out! As Jackson would say, ‘It’s lit!’”

The moment the word left his mouth, Daly’s face collapsed in embarrassment. “I’m 50. I’m sorry,” he groaned, hiding behind his script while Al Roker joked that it was “just sad.” Daly begged the team to “hit me over the head” if he ever said it again. The moment went viral — proving that even after decades on TV, Daly remains one of morning television’s most relatable personalities.
His personal life hasn’t slowed down either. Daly celebrated his 50th birthday live on Today, surrounded by his wife Siri and their three daughters — Etta, London, and Goldie — who performed a heart-melting rendition of “Happy Birthday.” His teenage son Jackson skipped the event (Savannah Guthrie teased it was because he was “a sleeping teenager”), but Daly joked Jackson wanted to know “how much the appearance fee was.”
Kelly Clarkson, who had been a guest on the show that morning, also jumped in to belt the birthday tune — a fitting tribute from a member of Daly’s unwavering Voice family.
While fans miss the Carson-Blake banter that defined nearly a decade of The Voice, Daly’s mix of humor, sentiment, and relatable chaos continues to make him one of TV’s most beloved hosts. Season 24 might feel different — quieter, less cowboy — but Daly is proving he can handle the next chapter… even if he has to fake-cry his way through the first haircut.
