Inside the Next Generation of Golf: The Children of Legends Stepping Onto the Greens .QN

Many of golf’s biggest stars hold two titles: professional player and father.

Scottie Scheffler is currently ranked No. 1 in the world and won his first British Open in July 2025. He celebrated the big win with his son Bennett, whom he welcomed with his wife Meredith Scudder in May 2024.

Other first-time dads include Justin Thomas, who welcomed his daughter Molly with wife Jillian Wisniewski in November 2024, and Rory McIlroy, who welcomed his daughter Poppy with wife Erica Stoll in August 2020. Meanwhile, golfer Tony Finau shares six children with his wife, Alayna Finau. They welcomed their youngest daughter, Layton Reign, in January 2025.

During a press conference for the 2023 PGA Tour Championship, Finau opened up about how special it is to travel for tournaments with his family.

“It’s a wonderful thing. We have a good time together,” he said, per the PGA Tour. “I mentioned this before, my kids are only young once. So, watching them grow as we travel together is pretty amazing.”

Tony added, “My kids love coming out and watching me. I think gives me that extra inspiration, but when I get back off the golf course, when I get back to the hotel room, to our house, whatever it may be, I’m just a dad, I’m just a husband and I love it that way.”

From Scottie Scheffler’s son to Russell Henley’s three children, here’s everything to know about the kids of golf’s biggest stars.

Scottie Scheffler’s son Bennett

Scheffler and Scudder welcomed their son Bennett on May 8, 2024, amid the PGA Championship Tour.

Bennett is often on hand to support his dad at golf tournaments, including the 2025 British Open. Scheffler said during a press conference after winning The Open that his family is his top priority.

“I love being able to take care of my son,” he said, per USA Today. “I love being able to provide for my family out here playing golf. That’s why I talk about family being my priority because it really is.

Scheffler added, “But if my golf ever started affecting my home life or it ever affected the relationship I have with my wife or my son, that’s going to be the last day that I play out here for a living.”

Rory McIlroy’s daughter Poppy

McIlroy and Stoll welcomed their daughter Poppy on Aug. 31, 2020.

Poppy has since served as her dad’s caddy and even showed off her putting skills at the 2025 Masters. Speaking at a press conference for the 2025 Masters, McIlroy shared that his daughter is beginning to understand his fame.

“I think it was the first time that she sort of realized what I did, which was really cool [and] also a little scary at the same time,” he said. “It’s amazing that I can share these things with her and with Erica.”

The player added, “The day after the Players, she went into school, and there’s a couple of kids that had said some stuff to her, and she came home to me that day and said, ‘Daddy, are you famous?’ And, I said, ‘It depends who you talk to.’ So, it’s a bit of a double-edged sword. You have to temper the expectations sometimes, but she’s … an amazing addition to life and it’s great that she’s here this week.”

Justin Thomas’ daughter Molly

Thomas and Wisniewski welcomed their daughter Molly Grace in November 2024.

During an interview with Town & Country magazine in June 2025, Thomas opened up about how becoming a father has impacted his golf.

“It’s obviously an adjustment like anything is in life; I’ve been very lucky. I have a great wife who’s helped adapt to those changes,” he said. “The biggest change is time management, it’s just more efficient practice and more mapping the day out a little bit more precisely than when we were 23 or 24, when you just wake up and see what the day holds, but it’ll be great.”

Thomas also shared that while he wants Molly to “love whatever she’s doing,” he hopes she has the same “drive to want to perform really well” that golf gives him.

Keegan Bradley’s sons Logan and Cooper

Keegan Bradley shares two sons with his wife, Jillian Bradley: Logan James, who was born on Nov. 13, 2017, and Cooper, who was born in 2019.

In June 2019, Bradley opened up to GolfWRX about how he balances being a professional golf player and a father.

“I am always learning, and I try to keep as balanced as possible,” he said. “I love spending time with my wife, Jillian, and my son, Logan, but like any husband/father there is a need to work in order to provide. I think I have just got better at structuring my practice, so that I am more efficient with my time.”

Russell Henley’s kids Robert, Ruth and Jane

Russell Henley shares three children with his wife Teil Duncan Henley. They welcomed their son Robert Russell on April 3, 2018, followed by their older daughter Ruth Teil on June 14, 2019. On June 4, 2022, the couple celebrated the arrival of their younger daughter, Jane Edith.

Speaking with Synovus in February 2024, Henley talked about balancing his career with being a father of three.

“With three kids, my wife, practice and traveling, it obviously takes up a ton of time,” he said. “I think having kids has made me more intentional with my time. And it’s made me a little bit more focused with time and I tend to not waste as much of it.”

Sepp Straka’s son Leo

Sepp Straka and his wife Paige Dean Straka welcomed their son Leo in December 2023.

Straka typically keeps his family life private, but he did share a sweet family photo on Instagram after winning the American Express tournament in January 2025.

“Back home with Leo and Paige, feeling like a champion,” he wrote in the caption. “Big thanks to @theamexgolf for an unforgettable event, and to my amazing family, team, and sponsors for their endless support. Couldn’t have done it without y’all!”

Joel Dahmen’s son Riggs and baby on the way

Joel Dahmen and his wife Lona Dahmen welcomed their son, Riggs William, on Jan. 19, 2023.

The golfer announced the pair is expecting their second child during an appearance on Dan on Golf in April 2025.

“We were supposed to be done [having children],” he said. “We had to go through IVF for the first one, struggled having another one through IVF and this one is a little miracle baby.”

Justin Rose’s kids Leo and Lottie

Justin Rose shares two children with his wife Kate Rose. They welcomed their son Leo on Feb. 21, 2009, followed by their daughter Lottie on Jan. 1, 2012.

Rose’s children have both taken up sports, with Leo playing soccer and Lottie competing in horse riding. During an appearance on Beyond the Clubhouse in April 2025, the golfer said he wants his children to learn from their failures.

“They’re both very, very competitive,” he said. “That doesn’t make life easy, actually, because you know there’s always challenges … I like to see them not get everything easy, because I think truly, if I look back at my own career, that’s where I learned. I learned from all the struggle. I learned from the failures.”

Shane Lowry’s daughters Iris and Ivy

Shane Lowry shares two daughters with his wife, Wendy Lowry. The pair welcomed their older daughter, Iris, on March 3, 2017, and their younger daughter, Ivy, on Sept. 1, 2021.

During an appearance on Caddie Conversations in July 2025, Lowry shared that his daughter Iris has taken up golf.

“I bought her clubs when she was 4 … but I never really pushed her. And then one day, about a year and a half, two years ago, she said to me, ‘Dad, can I go play golf?’ And I’m like, ‘Absolutely,’ ” he said. “We go out after dinner in the evenings, and it’s like my favorite thing ever to do … All she wants to do is chip and putt, and it just reminds me of what I was like when I was a kid.”

Lowry also shared that his younger daughter, Ivy, became interested in the sport after finding a small putter, and she’s “bringing it everywhere with her now.”

Adam Hadwin’s daughter Maddox

Adam Hadwin welcomed daughter Maddox with his wife Jessica Hadwin on Jan. 8, 2020.

During an interview with Sportsnet in March 2020, Hadwin opened up about becoming a father and having to “learn fast.”

“Certainly the good times are more than enjoyable,” he said. “When she’s playing and smiling and laughing, it can be really fun. As somebody who was used to his sleep and sometimes requires more than others, it’s been a little bit more difficult on that front.”

Hadwin added, “When you hear her crying, it’s a little harder — you know that she doesn’t know what’s going on. You’re not sure how to help her feel better or help her stop crying, that type of thing. But the learning curve is pretty quick.”

Tony and Alayna share six children together: Jraice, Leilene “Neenee” Aiaga, Tony, Sage, Sienna-Vee and Layton Reign.

In June 2019, Finau wrote on Golf.com that he takes being a father “very seriously” and prioritizes his time with his family.

“I spend my workday on the golf course, in some of the nicest locations and climates around the world, but as a father I’m often away from what’s most important to me,” he said. “I’m a dad, a husband and a professional golfer, in that order.”

Finau added, “It’s great to receive accolades on the course, but at the end of the day, if I end up raising four pretty cool kids — good people, good human beings — I’ve done my job. To me, that’s the biggest win I can play for.”

Rickie Fowler’s daughters Maya and Nellie

Rickie Fowler shares two children with his wife Allison Stokke. They welcomed their older daughter, Maya, on Nov. 18, 2021, and their younger daughter, Nellie, arrived in August 2024.

During an appearance on Swing By with Jason Kennedy in April 2024, Fowler said being a parent is his “main job” and how specifically being a girl dad is “very special.”

“I don’t have a boy, but my sister has twin boys, I have plenty of friends that have little boys, but I feel like there’s something with a little girl that just pulls a little harder at you,” he said.
