LGBTQ+ ally Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called FBI director Kash Patel “the least qualified FBI director in the history of the FBI” and mocked his seeming inability to catch the suspected killer of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk.
She made the comments during a September 17 House Judiciary Committee hearing, during which Patel also repeatedly refused to say whether President Donald Trump’s name appears in classified files about now-deceased child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
“I did have to make sure that I’m not going crazy. But when I say that you are the least qualified FBI director in the history of the FBI, that is real, because you are the only one who never even served with the FBI prior to joining,” Crockett told Patel in yesterday’s hearing. When Patel replied, “That’s false,” Crockett said, “I didn’t ask you a question.”

Crockett then accused Patel of having “put on a show for your boss [President Trump]” by yelling at other Democratic Congress members during the hearing “because it seems like you’re trying to save your job.”

She pointed out that Patel’s FBI has refused to acknowledge that right-wing extremists are responsible for far more threats than left-wingers. She also said his leadership has overseen a purge of qualified long-term FBI experts and operatives.
“How are we supposed to have confidence when you’re sitting up here telling the Senate yesterday that it will take you 14 years before you can get the FBI fully staffed to do their jobs?” Crockett asked.

“You’re getting rid of your most qualified people… You posted not only once erroneously, you posted twice erroneously, as it relates to catching somebody [suspected of the murder of Charlie Kirk]. And then you want to go and say, ‘Let me take a victory lap’? Because honestly, if it wasn’t for parents deciding that they were going to turn in their child, it seems like y’all wouldn’t have got there, even though he literally confessed online, so I’m confused about what it is that the FBI is doing except for trying to put on a show for The Apprentice [Donald Trump] or whatever you want to call him.”
Crockett’s reference to the suspect in Kirk’s murder alluded to the fact that 22-year-old Tyler Robinson was only apprehended after his parents reported him to legal authorities. Previous to then, Patel claimed on social media to have two different suspects in custody, but both were quickly released after investigators realized they were not involved.
During the previous day’s congressional hearing, Patel yelled and began reciting the ABCs when Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) repeatedly asked him how many times Trump’s name appears in government files about deceased sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
