The All-Star break in the WNBA might be arriving at the worst possible moment for Julie Allemand, because the Belgian guard is currently playing some of the best basketball of her career with the LA Sparks. Her coach, Lynne Roberts, could not stop raving about her after last night’s performance: “She is the perfect extension of a coach on the floor.”
Julie Allemand was already one of the driving forces behind the Belgian Cats’ European Championship title this summer, and she has seamlessly carried that elite form into the WNBA.
Since returning from the Euros, Allemand has become an undisputed starter for the LA Sparks. She lines up at the guard position next to All-Star Kelsey Plum and now averages more than 30 minutes per game—double the minutes she was getting before the European Championship.

For the Sparks, Allemand is doing exactly what Belgian fans know her for with the national team: controlling the tempo, orchestrating the offense, and handing out assists with remarkable precision. Over her last four games, she has tallied 25 assists, including a standout performance last night with a season-high 10 against Washington.
“You simply cannot overestimate her value to this team.”
— LA Sparks head coach Lynne Roberts
Following the win over the Mystics, Roberts showered Allemand with praise. “Twenty-five assists in the last four games and only three turnovers… that’s just insane,” the coach said in awe.
Allemand also posted the best +/- on the team with +22. In the 32 minutes she was on the court, the Sparks outscored Washington by 22 points—despite Allemand herself scoring only three points.
“That’s incredibly difficult to do, and it tells you everything about her impact,” Roberts added. “You cannot overstate how important she is for this group.”
“Julie is the perfect extension of a coach on the floor.”

The Sparks head into the All-Star break with confidence after winning three of their last four games, and Allemand’s influence has been central to that momentum.

“Julie is incredibly smart and understands the game at a level that very few players do,” Roberts said. “She knows exactly how to find her teammates at the right moments.”
“She understands what the team needs, who we should look for on offense, and she consistently chooses the right plays. Julie truly is the perfect extension of a coach on the floor.”
