Princess Kate recently revealed a charming new habit of her youngest son, Prince Louis, during her outing with first lady Melania Trump at the Scouts event in Windsor on September 18, 2025. While chatting with Chief Scout Dwayne Fields at Frogmore Gardens, Kate shared that Louis has taken up collecting conkers, the seeds from horse chestnut trees that fall during autumn.
“We keep finding conkers in cupboards, in his bed – conkers everywhere!” the Princess of Wales, 43, said with a laugh. She added that Louis even places the conkers in his toy trucks to play with them. Conkers, central to the traditional British children’s game of the same name, involve two seeds being knocked together, with the goal of breaking the other’s seed. Though the game has lost popularity over the years, conkers remain a favorite autumn pastime among children in the UK, including Prince Louis.
Kate’s comment was shared during her first joint outing with Melania Trump, who was in the UK accompanying President Trump for a state visit. The two women spent time with young members of the Scouts’ Squirrels program on the final day of the visit. As Joint President of the Scouts, Princess Kate is a proud supporter of the organization, and her interaction with the children was noted for how personable and warm it was.
Chief Scout Dwayne Fields explained to PEOPLE that Kate’s story about Louis collecting conkers was a perfect example of how she connects with young people. “For me, that was very much in line with what the young people were talking about,” Fields said, emphasizing how Kate’s personal stories about her children help create a more relatable and inviting atmosphere.
