Los Angeles Sparks guard Kelsey Plum has made it clear—she’s not a fan of one fashion trend that’s caught on in the WNBA.
During a recent interview clip shared on Instagram by Bleacher Report, Plum was asked to name her least favorite fashion statement among players.

“The belly chain,” she responded without hesitation. “But people are like play basketball in it. Like, I’ve never seen someone with a belly chain shoot over 40% from three. Just saying.”
The reaction comes just days before Plum begins her first season with the Sparks following a major trade in January that sent her from the Las Vegas Aces to Los Angeles.
The three-team deal also involved Jewell Loyd and the Seattle Storm. Despite the shift, Plum is embracing her new home and role with optimism—and a bit of humor.

Plum will join a younger group that includes standout players Cameron Brink and Rickea Jackson. Under new head coach Lynne Roberts, Plum will likely be the team’s top scoring option and primary playmaker.
In 2024, Plum played 38 out of 40 regular-season games with the Aces and posted impressive numbers: 17.8 points, 4.2 assists and 2.6 rebounds per game. She shot 42.3% from the field and 36.8% from beyond the arc—stats that back up her confidence when commenting on shooting accuracy.

Plum’s offseason training has also drawn major attention online. Photos of her lifting heavy weights and showing off her increased strength, shared by Nasgioia on X, went viral. Many praised her discipline and drive, noting how her offseason body transformation was proof that she’s ready for a big year.
As for the belly chain remark, it was all in fun—but knowing Plum, it was also a way to challenge her fellow athletes to bring their best game. And if they want to wear accessories while doing it, they might want to double-check their shooting percentages first.
