On October 20, 2025, King Charles made a poignant visit to Manchester, where he met with the Jewish community and those impacted by a tragic terror attack that occurred on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. The attack, which took place on October 2, outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue, left two people dead and others injured. The King, at 76, traveled to show his support for the local community in the wake of this devastating event, paying tribute to the victims and the resilience of the Jewish community.

His visit came at a particularly challenging time for the royal family, following a storm of controversy surrounding his brother, Prince Andrew. Just days before, on October 17, Prince Andrew made the decision to relinquish his royal titles, including the Duke of York and the esteemed Order of the Garter. This came after growing pressure, following allegations related to his links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. While the King expressed his approval of his brother’s decision, there have been increasing rumors that Prince William, once he ascends to the throne, may take further action. Reports suggest that the Prince of Wales is considering the possibility of entirely barring Andrew from royal life.

Despite these tensions within the family, King Charles focused on his visit to Manchester, where he was greeted warmly by Rabbi Daniel Walker and other community leaders. At the synagogue, King Charles was shown a memorial of flowers left in honor of the victims, Melvin Cravitz and Adrian Daulby. Wearing a yarmulke, the King took a moment of reflection before meeting with the local community, offering his condolences and support in the face of tragedy.

The attack, which was carried out by 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, began when the assailant rammed his car into security before attempting to force entry into the synagogue, where he stabbed a worshipper. The police confirmed the death of the attacker at the scene, and three others were left in serious condition. In the aftermath of the attack, King Charles also took time to meet with emergency service personnel who played a crucial role in supporting the community in the days that followed.
