Sir James Anderson, the legendary English cricketer, was knighted by Princess Anne at Windsor Castle for his exceptional contributions to cricket. The honor was part of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s resignation honours list, with Anderson being recognized for his remarkable career in the sport. Known for holding the record for the most Test wickets taken for England with 704, Anderson’s career stretches back to 2000, when he made his debut for Lancashire before becoming an integral part of the England cricket team for over two decades. His achievements in cricket place him among the sport’s greats, alongside the likes of Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan and Australian icon Shane Warne.

Though Sir James retired from Test cricket a few years ago, he remains active in domestic cricket, still playing for Lancashire. He was in discussions for a contract extension for another year, which would extend his career beyond his 44th birthday. In the 2025 domestic season, he played six Rothesay County Championship matches before an injury prematurely ended his season.

The investiture ceremony, held at Windsor Castle, saw 70 individuals recognized for their contributions to various fields. Among them was Graham Gouldman, the frontman of the legendary rock band 10cc, who was made an MBE for his outstanding service to music. Gouldman, known for co-writing hits like “The Things We Do for Love” and “Dreadlock Holiday,” expressed how much the honor meant to him, reflecting on how proud his parents would have been. He also shared a delightful experience meeting Princess Anne, who was well-informed and relaxed during their conversation about touring and charity work.

Additionally, BBC’s chief economics correspondent, Dharshini David, was awarded an OBE for her services to economics, having contributed to the world of financial journalism for many years. David’s impressive career includes stints with the Government Economics Service, HSBC Investment Bank, Sky News, and the BBC. She is also the author of The Almighty Dollar and Environomics: How The Green Economy Is Transforming Your World.

The event highlighted the diverse achievements of these individuals, all of whom have made significant contributions to their fields, with Sir James Anderson’s knighthood representing a crowning moment in a distinguished career that has shaped English cricket for over two decades.
