NEED TO KNOW
- Sparks star Kelsey Plum jokingly told a fan wearing a Caitlin Clark shirt to ‘do better’ at a game in Los Angeles
- The Los Angeles Sparks were facing off against the Chicago Sky on June 29
- The interaction comes days after a heated interaction between Plum and Clark
Someone was in serious need of a costume change at a recent Los Angeles Sparks game.
As Sparks star Kelsey Plum was warming up before their Sunday, June 29 face off against the Chicago Sky at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena, she spotted a fan sitting courtside wearing a yellow Caitlin Clark Indiana Fever t-shirt.
Plum, a native of California, walked over and jokingly told the fan, “You can’t be wearing that in the gym. Do better.”
With a big grin on her face, Plum, 30, then tossed the fan a new L.A. Sparks t-shirt. The woman gladly accepted, and put on her new shirt over the Clark one while laughing.
Plum — still with an exercise band around her legs from warm-ups — then took a photo with the fan.
The amusing interaction comes a few days after Plum appeared to urge referees to give Clark, 23-years-old, a technical foul for stepping onto the court during the Sparks’ game against the Indiana Fever on Thursday, June 26.
Clark was out for the game with a groin injury, and was animately talking to the refs from the sidelines as she fought for her team — though the Fever went on to lose to the Sparks, 85-75.
On Sunday night, following the fun fan interaction, Plum led the Sparks in scoring with 22 points against the Sky, though they ultimately lost to Angel Reese‘s team, 92-85.
The defeat dropped the Sparks to a 5-12 record, and second-to-last in the Western conference.
The Sparks did get to celebrate, though. In a halftime ceremony on Sunday night, the Sparks honored longtime star Candace Parker, who retired in 2024.Kelsey Plum (with her former team) and Caitlin Clark.

A two-time WNBA MVP, Parker led the Sparks to two finals and one championship during her 12 year run in Los Angeles, from 2008 to 2020. The team has yet to qualify for the playoffs since Parker departed.
The Sparks will next face reigning WNBA champions the New York Liberty on Thursday, July 3, before meeting Clark and the Fever again on Saturday.
