ABC World News Tonight viewers were left feeling rather distressed after host David Muir delivered some shocking breaking news.
It was a tense start to the long-running ABC news programme when David, 52, announced, “We begin tonight with the alarming moments the toxic emergency that unfolded in Weatherford, Oklahoma.

“This is about 70 miles outside Oklahoma City. At least 36 people rushed to the hospital tonight, at least 11 of them in critical condition. Hundreds more were evacuated,” the journalist explained, before adding, “The alarming scene overnight, that thick cloud of ammonia gas blanketing the area. Authorities say a tanker truck began leaking ammonia in a hotel parking lot.”
David continued, “The truck carrying 25,000 pounds of ammonia. Authorities investigating the cause of the leak. Residents told to shelter in place. Officials now monitoring air quality, and many of these patients, as I said, remain in critical condition at this hour.”
He concluded his part of the segment, saying, “Trevor Ault, leading us off with the images tonight,” as clips of the distressing scenes flashed on the screen.
Via a voiceover, Trevor began, “Tonight, west of Oklahoma City, at least 11 people in critical condition, dozens more sickened after a tanker truck leaked poisonous gas in a hotel parking lot.
“Officials say that white cloud engulfing the cars is anhydrous ammonia gas spreading through the parking lot behind the Holiday Inn Express late Wednesday night in Weatherford, Oklahoma.”

Trevor was then scene speaking to those who had experienced the incident first hand, with one person recalling, “We went back to run out to go, and I see like an old lady coughing, and everybody’s coughing around us, and I see the firemen coughing and on his knees, and we just couldn’t we couldn’t breathe, couldn’t breathe like I thought I’m dying. I thought I’m gonna quit running and just collapse on the floor.”
The reporter continued, “At least 36 people rushed to the hospital. There were some serious injuries, and those were meta flighted to Oklahoma City, and those were the life-threatening.”
A clip of the segment was shared to ABC World News Tonight with the caption, “Dozens of people in Weatherford, Oklahoma, were rushed to the hospital after a tanker truck in a hotel parking lot leaked ammonia gas. A fifth concerned viewer chimed in, “This is horrible I hope these poor people survive,” with a sixth saying, “I feel for everyone here. That has to be the worst place in the worst time for this incident to happen.”
