Prince William recently shared insights into how his three children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—have been coping with their mother Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. In an interview with actor Eugene Levy on Apple TV+’s The Reluctant Traveler, the Prince of Wales reflected on the challenges of navigating the family’s private struggles in the public eye.

Speaking candidly, William explained that while each of his children has their own way of dealing with difficult situations, the family works hard to ensure a sense of security and safety for them. He added, “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need. And we’re a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, and things that trouble us, but you never quite know the knock-on effects that it can have.”

Kate, 43, announced her cancer diagnosis in March 2024, revealing she had undergone major surgery earlier that year before beginning chemotherapy. After completing her treatment in September 2024, Kate shared the positive news of her remission in early 2025. The princess acknowledged how much effort it took to explain her diagnosis and treatment to George, Charlotte, and Louis, ensuring they understood in a way appropriate for their age, and reassured them of her recovery.

For William, the past year has been particularly challenging, balancing his responsibilities as a father, husband, and royal figure. “2024 was the hardest year that I’ve ever had,” he admitted. The strain of protecting his family while maintaining his royal duties has not been easy, especially with both Kate and his father, King Charles, facing health battles. William also revealed that while Kate’s recovery is progressing well, he had to navigate the delicate task of shielding his children from the emotional weight of the situation.

Despite the hardships, Prince William remains optimistic, reflecting on the importance of persevering through life’s challenges. “We all have challenges that come our way, and it’s important to keep going,” he said, emphasizing the significance of staying resilient for the sake of his family.
This year has undoubtedly been filled with emotional and physical trials for the royal family, but William’s focus remains on ensuring that his children are well supported and that Kate’s recovery continues on the right path. The public will continue to watch as the royal family navigates these difficult times with a mix of openness and determination.
