Prince William is opening up about one of the toughest years his family has faced, shedding light on the personal challenges that have tested him and his loved ones. In an upcoming episode of The Reluctant Traveler with Eugene Levy, which will air on Apple TV+ on October 3, 2025, the Prince of Wales, 43, discusses the emotional struggles that have marked the past year.
The episode features Levy, 78, touring London and making his way to Windsor Castle, where he is greeted by William himself for a personalized tour. With Levy asking about his free time, William jokes about his chaotic home life, saying, “Sleep. When you have three small children, sleep is an important part of my life.” William shares his three children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7—with his wife, Princess Kate.
However, the tone shifts as the pair sit down for a pint at a local pub, where William gets candid about the difficult times his family has faced. Reflecting on the period from 2023 to 2024, he admits, “I’d say ‘23-’24 was the hardest year I’ve ever had.” He goes on to say, “Life is sent to test us, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
This period has been particularly tough for the royal family, with both William’s wife, Kate, and his father, King Charles, diagnosed with cancer. In March 2024, Kate made her diagnosis public, and after undergoing chemotherapy, she announced in January 2025 that her cancer was in remission. Since then, she has returned to her royal duties.
William also opened up about his personal and family struggles in November 2024, during his trip to South Africa for his Earthshot Prize. He described the year as “dreadful” and “probably the hardest year of my life,” acknowledging how difficult it has been to juggle personal and royal responsibilities. He expressed immense pride in his wife and father for their resilience, but also admitted that the challenges have been brutal.
The Reluctant Traveler episode offers a rare, intimate look at Prince William’s life and the emotional toll recent events have taken on him and his family. Fans can watch the episode when it drops on Apple TV+ on October 3, with new episodes released weekly through October 31.
