Princess Eugenie took on a rare and significant royal duty on Tuesday, October 14, during an official state visit from the Jordanian royal family. Accompanied by Princess Rajwa al Hussein, the wife of Crown Prince Hussein of Jordan, Eugenie, 35, toured Springfield University Hospital and St. George’s Mental Health NHS Trust, where they explored how art is integrated into mental health treatment. Eugenie shared her experience on Instagram, highlighting the Hospital Rooms initiative, which commissions international artists to create permanent, high-quality artworks for mental health wards across the UK’s National Health Service. She described the project as “truly beautiful,” noting how the art helps transform hospital environments into welcoming and uplifting spaces for patients.

The royal duo then visited Hauser & Wirth, a renowned London art gallery, where Princess Eugenie works as a director. This outing comes amid increased scrutiny of her parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, following renewed attention on their past association with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Recently published emails revealed that Prince Andrew had expressed concern over a photo of him with Virginia Giuffre, writing, “It would seem we are in this together.” Around the same time, Sarah Ferguson reportedly emailed Epstein to apologize for publicly disowning him, referring to him as a “steadfast, generous and supreme friend.” As a result, several charities, including Julia’s House and the British Heart Foundation, announced they would part ways with the Duchess of York.
In light of these developments, it was reported that King Charles has decided that Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are not welcome at this year’s royal family Christmas gathering. Despite the ongoing controversy surrounding her family, Princess Eugenie has continued her charitable work. Earlier this month, it was announced that she had become a patron of Arts Works U.K., an organization focused on helping young people create change through creativity. The organization praised her support, emphasizing her commitment to nurturing talent and empowering the next generation of creative leaders.

Princess Eugenie’s commitment to charitable causes aligns with Princess Rajwa’s interests, as the Jordanian princess, 31, has a background in visual communications and studied at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles. Rajwa and Crown Prince Hussein, also 31, are on their first official European tour together after their wedding in June 2023 and the birth of their daughter, Princess Iman, in August 2024. Before visiting the UK, the couple traveled to France, where they met with President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte. The tour continued on October 15, with Prince William and Prince Hussein visiting the RAF Benson Air Force Base in Oxfordshire.

The royal visit also holds personal significance for Kate Middleton, as she spent part of her childhood in Jordan. Kate, her sister Pippa, and their father Michael lived in Amman for nearly three years while Michael was stationed there through his work with British Airways. During the 2022 visit of Queen Rania and King Abdullah of Jordan to the UK, Queen Rania praised the Princess of Wales for her dedication to her work, noting how Kate’s passion for her causes is fueled by genuine care.
Princess Eugenie’s involvement in this royal engagement, alongside Princess Rajwa, highlights her continued role in modernizing the monarchy through charitable causes, despite the personal challenges her family has faced in the public eye.
