King Charles was reportedly left “stunned” and “speechless” after learning that his younger brother, Prince Andrew, had attempted to pass him a $43,000 bill for a live-in yogi, according to a new royal biography, The Rise and Fall of the House of York by historian Andrew Lownie. The exorbitant bill, which covered the costs of chanting, massages, and holistic therapy, included the yogi’s extended stay at Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park—a residence Andrew has occupied since 2002 under a 75-year lease secured on the Crown Estate.

The demand, which came after the passing of Queen Elizabeth II and the subsequent transition of the throne to Charles, has ignited a significant rift between the royal brothers. A palace insider described Charles as “outraged” upon receiving the bill, which was viewed as a lavish and unreasonable request for financial support. The source claimed that the yogi had stayed at the Royal Lodge for weeks at a time, further intensifying the friction. “The King couldn’t believe Andrew expected him to pay for it. He was speechless,” the insider revealed.

The tension surrounding the Royal Lodge and its upkeep has been a source of contention between the two brothers for some time. While Queen Elizabeth II reportedly covered some of Andrew’s living expenses during her reign, that arrangement ended with Charles ascending to the throne. Charles, now facing the daunting challenge of modernizing the monarchy, has made it clear that he will no longer tolerate such costly perks, particularly in light of Andrew’s ongoing scandals and non-working royal status.

Charles is said to have privately voiced concerns about the optics of a disgraced prince continuing to live in a 30-room mansion, with accusations of sexual misconduct and his ties to the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein continuing to haunt the royal family. According to reports, Charles has long wanted Andrew out of Royal Lodge, but his hands have been tied by the lease agreement. However, Charles has reportedly taken steps to stop funding Andrew’s luxury lifestyle, including halting the payment of staff, consultants, and, most recently, the yogi’s fees.

The royal family’s efforts to address Andrew’s lavish lifestyle and his ongoing controversies suggest that King Charles is determined to usher in a new era for the monarchy, one that is more focused on transparency and accountability. While Andrew’s presence continues to create tension, it is clear that Charles, supported by his heir, Prince William, is working to diminish the negative impact of Andrew’s actions on the family’s reputation. The refusal to pay for Andrew’s live-in yogi marks a pivotal moment in Charles’s leadership, signaling that the monarchy is shifting away from tolerating indulgences at the expense of the Crown’s image.
