Beloved Today show host Sheinelle Jones has quietly postponed the release of her debut book, Through Mom’s Eyes, for the second time, as she continues to process the devastating loss of her husband, Uche Ojeh. Penguin Random House, the book’s publisher, confirmed that the new release date is now set for February 10, 2026 — nearly a year after the previously scheduled October 21, 2025 launch.
The emotional delay follows an extended period of absence from television, during which Sheinelle has been mourning the tragic death of Uche, her husband of 17 years, who passed away at age 45 after a private battle with glioblastoma — an aggressive and unforgiving form of brain cancer.

Sheinelle’s sudden and complete withdrawal from the public eye late last year was initially attributed to a “family health matter.” However, the heartbreaking truth came to light on May 23, when Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie tearfully informed viewers of Uche’s passing. “With profound sadness, we share this morning that Uche Ojeh, the husband of our friend and Today co-host Sheinelle Jones, has passed away after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma,” she said.
“There are no words for the pain we feel for Sheinelle and their three young children,” Savannah continued. “Uche was an incredible person. We all loved him.”
The loss sent shockwaves through the Today family and among viewers, many of whom were unaware of the private health battle Sheinelle had been shouldering in silence. The couple shared three children together: 15-year-old son Kayin and 12-year-old twins Clara and Uche Jr.
Since her quiet departure from Today last December, Sheinelle has stayed almost entirely out of the spotlight. While she briefly broke her silence in a heartfelt Instagram story thanking her colleagues and fans for their “love and support,” she has not returned to work or made any further public statements.
“Sheinelle Jones abruptly withdrew from all schedules, engulfed in grief following the tragic death of her husband, leaving colleagues and fans deeply concerned,” a close show insider shared. “Behind her strong facade lies an unspoken loss that’s eroding the spirit of the renowned host — details of this tragedy are being kept under wraps for this reason.”
Indeed, what the public sees — the polished journalist, the vibrant TV presence — has been replaced, for now, with a woman in mourning, retreating from the demands of her career to focus on healing and her children. Her team has stressed that she will return to the anchor’s desk only “when the time is right.”

Fellow anchor Dylan Dreyer offered an emotional update in May, saying, “One of us on the team talks to her every single day, and we’re there to support her. We’ll welcome her back with open arms the second she can get back to us.”
Insiders also hinted that Sheinelle may return to a more prominent role upon her comeback, with speculation that NBC executives plan to name her Jenna Bush Hager’s permanent co-host on the fourth hour of Today. “They need someone who can throw to break, someone who knows the craft of making TV work, and Sheinelle is a pro,” a source said.
Whenever she returns, Sheinelle will be promoting her long-awaited book, Through Mom’s Eyes, which promises a deeply personal look at parenting through the lens of celebrity motherhood and her own journey. The book features interviews with the mothers of stars like Lady Gaga, Jessica Simpson, the Jonas Brothers, and Venus and Serena Williams — all woven into a narrative of resilience and modern parenting.

But for now, the book — like Sheinelle herself — remains on pause.
As fans await her return, they are reminded of the strength it takes to step away from the spotlight and confront profound personal loss. In doing so, Sheinelle Jones is showing that healing, too, is a form of courage.
