“I think y’all got a gold mine in the WNBA sitting right there, marketable as anybody, in A’ja Wilson.”

Draymond Green has chimed in on the Caitlin Clark conversation with a different angle, and it includes WNBA Champion A’ja Wilson.
Green spoke his mind during the latest episode of The Draymond Green Show, sounding off on the state of the WNBA about Clark’s presence and impact. While the media has opted to celebrate Clark for popularizing the women’s basketball league, Green wasn’t so quick to agree with the sentiment. Instead, he looked to Wilson as the player that fans and the media should be showing more love to because her current play on the court will lead to being one of the “greatest players to grace the WNBA” one day.
“I ain’t saying Caitlin Clark is the best thing since sliced bread. Quite frankly, if you want my opinion, that’s A’ja Wilson,” Green asserted. “The best thing since sliced bread in the WNBA is A’ja Wilson. I’m not necessarily in the mindset that it’s all Caitlin Clark, no, A’ja Wilson is great. A’ja Wilson to me is the American dream. Coming from a two-parent household, grew, got better, young Black girl, had everything against her, beat the odds to become what soon will be known as the greatest player to ever grace the WNBA.
Draymond then called on the WNBA to put their money behind Wilson, who is already a proven winner with a personality to match. But Green did make sure to state that he isn’t trying to diminish Clark’s impact in any way, but insisted that the W hasn’t “figured out how to make it go” to elevate A’ja’s profile.
“I think A’ja Wilson is as marketable as anybody in the WNBA, but you have to figure out how to market the product. So I’m not going to sit up here and act like Caitlin Clark ain’t done nothing for the WNBA,” he added. “That’s bullsh*t, yes she has. She’s going to continue to. No, I’m not in the assumption that it’s only her. I think y’all got a gold mine in the WNBA sitting right there, marketable as anybody in A’Ja Wilson and haven’t figured out how to make it go. Ain’t A’ja fault. A’ja got a lot about her that is as marketable as can be.”
A’ja Wilson joined the league in 2018 after being drafted No. 1 overall from South Carolina by the Las Vegas Aces. Since then, Wilson has won several accolades, including Rookie of the Year, 2x WNBA MVP, 2x Defensive Player of the Year, 2020 Olympic gold medalist, and a 2x WNBA Champion.
Let’s see if the WNBA does anything to better market the player, who some say is the best baller currently in the league.
