New York Mets superstar Juan Soto has once again found himself trending online — this time because of a comment he didn’t make.

During the 2026 World Baseball Classic, Soto delivered an interview that quickly went viral after fans noticed he failed to mention the Mets when discussing the most enjoyable teams he has played for.
The moment came after the Dominican Republic’s dominant 12–1 win over the Netherlands on March 8.
Soto praises Dominican Republic lineup

Following the victory, Soto was asked about the chemistry and strength of the Dominican Republic’s lineup.
The slugger emphasized the team-first mentality that has helped fuel their early success in the tournament.
“I mean, it’s great what we can do,” Soto said. “We’ve been passing the baton. We don’t try to be the hero. I feel like we have a great lineup; everybody can do damage. But we’re playing team baseball right now, and it’s really fun to play with a team like that.”
He continued by highlighting the camaraderie among the roster, despite the presence of numerous superstars.
“There are so many superstars on this team, but we play like friends, we play like a family,” Soto explained. “Nobody wants to do more than he’s supposed to do. We just play team baseball.”
The comment that sparked controversy

The conversation took an interesting turn when Soto was asked when he last had this much fun playing baseball.
His response quickly caught the attention of fans across social media.
“I’ve been on great teams,” Soto said. “In 2019 and 2024, those were really fun teams I played with. But this has to be top of the top.”
The remark immediately went viral, with many fans pointing out that Soto mentioned his 2019 Washington Nationals and 2024 New York Yankees teams — but not his current club, the New York Mets.
Within hours, the interview clip had racked up hundreds of thousands of views and was widely shared across baseball social media.
Why Soto referenced those teams

Context helps explain Soto’s answer.
The 2019 Nationals won the World Series, with Soto playing a key role in the championship run. Meanwhile, the 2024 Yankees also reached the World Series, making that season another memorable experience for the star outfielder.
The Mets, on the other hand, have not yet reached that stage since Soto joined the organization.
Because of that, Soto’s comments likely reflected the deep postseason memories associated with those two teams rather than any dissatisfaction with his current club.
No real concern for Mets fans

Despite the viral reaction online, there is little reason for Mets fans to be worried.
Soto signed a 15-year contract with New York and is coming off one of the best seasons of his career, silencing early speculation that he was struggling to adjust after joining the team.
Still, the internet rarely misses an opportunity to stir debate.
For rival fanbases — particularly Yankees supporters — Soto’s omission of the Mets quickly became fuel for jokes and commentary across social media.

Whether intentional or not, the comment created a viral moment that once again proves one thing: when Juan Soto speaks, the baseball world listens.
