“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Monday said President Donald Trump didn’t quite get the greeting he was hoping for when he went to see the Washington Commanders take on the Detroit Lions.

“The fans were not happy to see him,” Colbert said, then rolled footage of Trump being greeted with some very loud boos and middle fingers at Northwest Stadium on Sunday.
As Colbert also noted, Trump joined the TV announcers at one point and tried to call the game.
“Well, let’s see what happens here,” Trump said. “This is a big…”

Trump didn’t complete the sentence, so one of the announcers jumped in with some help.
“Big down, all right,” the announcer said. “They’re calling a timeout here, President Trump, they’re trying to regroup.”
What Trump offered next had little to do with the play that was unfolding.
“But you can equate sports with life, you know, you have the triumph and you have the problems and you gotta get through the problems to hit the triumphs,” Trump said. “And you can never quit. You can never give up.”
After Trump finished, both announcers were silent for a moment.

“A little rough,” Colbert said. “That marks the first time the guys in the booth got brain damage.”
