Spike Lee will be interviewed by Stephen Colbert at this year’s Montclair Film Festival.
Spike Lee will appear in conversation with Stephen Colbert at The Wellmont Theater in Montclair, Oct. 18 at 3:30 p.m., as part of this year’s Montclair Film Festival. Lee, who will receive the festival’s Filmmaker Tribute award, will talk about his life and career, with an emphasis on his new movie “Highest 2 Lowest” (see trailer below).
The festival has announced other awards and special events as well.

NICHOLAS BRITELL
• Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. at The Wellmont Theater, after the screening of “Jay Kelly” (co-starring George Clooney and Adam Sandler), Nicholas Britell will receive the festival’s Composer Award, and participate in a question-and-answer session.
• Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. at The Montclair Kimberley Academy Upper School, Warner Brothers Motion Picture Group Co-Chair and CEO will receive the festival’s Visionary Award and participate in a conversation moderated by Montclair Film Artistic Director Tom Hall.
• Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at The Wellmont Theater, screenwriter Will Tracy will receive the festival’s Screenwriter Award following a screening of Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Bugonia,” for which he wrote the screenplay. (see trailer below)
• Oct. 19 at 5 p.m. at The Bellevue Theatre, Shih-Ching Tsou will receive the Breakthrough Director award following a
screening of her new “Left-Handed Girl.” The film has been selected to be Taiwan’s submission in the International Feature category for the 98th annual Academy Awards, which will be given out in March.
• Oct. 25 at 7:30 p.m. at The Bellevue Theatre, directors Mark Oberhaus and Laura Poitras will receive the David Carr Award for Truth in Non-Fiction Filmmaking for their film “Cover-Up,” a documentary about the investigative journalist Seymour Hersh.
Gov. Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy will serve as the festival’s honorary chairs.
The full festival program will be announced on Sept. 26, and tickets to all events will go on sale at 10 a.m. Sept. 29 (for Montclair Film members) and 10 a.m. Oct. 3 (for the general public). Visit montclairfilm.org.
