When Saturday Night Live dropped its latest “Freak-Ass Bob” skit, fans immediately wondered: was it secretly inspired by Jenna Bush Hager and Leslie Bibb? The duo appeared on Today With Jenna & Friends to weigh in, and the answer is equal parts hilarious and inconclusive. Between laughs, gentle teasing, and some serious bob comparisons, both stars admitted they were flattered, amused, and maybe just a little mystified.
The skit, which starred Bowen Yang and Glen Powell as sergeants greeting a new recruit to the “Slay Division,” quickly became a viral moment. Yang and Powell’s characters sport exaggerated, perfectly styled bobs, with lines like, “The U.S. military is always in search of innovative ways to intimidate the enemy” — and, of course, the infamous shoutout to Bibb. The skit even claimed there’s “nothing more intimidating” than a “freak-ass bob,” leaving fans debating whether Jenna and Leslie’s signature hairstyles had made their mark on pop culture in ways they never imagined.
“You don’t think this is about you?” Olivia Munn asked while guest hosting the show. “I asked them to pull up a picture of you two last week in army coats with your bobs. That is 100% you! Literally you guys. Is that exciting?” Jenna laughed, shaking her head. “People, meaning our staff, are saying it may have been inspired by me and definitely by Leslie, but I’m not totally convinced,” she admitted, laughing at the thought of being immortalized in SNL history.

The two stars recalled Jenna’s own bob transformation on Today, which some viewers compared to Bibb’s famously edgy haircut from The White Lotus. “I kind of remember us watching it afterwards and laughing hysterically,” Jenna said, admitting that while there were parts she didn’t love, she found it flattering overall. After all, she has been spoofed before — NBC legends Amy Poehler and Tina Fey famously played her and her sister Barbara in a previous skit, which Jenna remembered as fun and lighthearted.
Leslie Bibb chimed in, joking about the “army coat aesthetic” and the absurdity of seeing their hairstyles dramatized on national television. “It’s so weird, but also so funny,” she said. “Somewhere, someone decided this was iconic enough to make it into a whole SNL universe, and I’m just here for it.”
Whether or not SNL was directly inspired by them, the moment was one of pure laughter, celebration, and playful self-reflection. For fans, the “Freak-Ass Bob” army may forever be linked to Jenna and Leslie, and for the stars themselves, it’s another reminder that being in the spotlight sometimes comes with unexpected and hilarious tributes.
