The rookie right-hander will start Game 5 of the World Series on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Blue Jays announced Tuesday prior to Game 4.
It will be the fifth start of the playoffs and second of the World Series for the 22-year-old Yesavage, who made his MLB debut in September and had just three major-league starts before the post-season.
“Each day I learn something new,” said Yesavage to media before Game 4. “I take something away from my game or someone else’s game. So, just stacking all those days up this entire season has led me to this point.”
Yesavage is 2-1 with a 4.26 ERA in 19 innings during the post-season. All four previous playoff starts have come at Rogers Centre.
The six-foot-four East Carolina product started Game 1 of the World Series against the Dodgers, going four innings while giving up two runs on four hits and three walks. The Blue Jays eventually won the game 11-4, feasting on the Dodgers bullpen.
Blake Snell, the Dodgers’ Game 1 starter, will be back on the mound for Game 5 (Sportsnet, 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT).
