Shortstop Bo Bichette has had an incredible tenure with the Toronto Blue Jays since coming up with the team in 2019. In his career, Bichette has hit .294 with an .806 OPS, 111 home runs and 437 RBIs.
He is coming off one of the best seasons of his career in 2025, helping the Blue Jays reach their first World Series since 1993. In 139 regular-season games, Bichette batted .311 to go with an .840 OPS, 18 homers and 94 RBIs.
Bichette’s team control ended after this past season, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.
The Blue Jays would love to have their two-time All-Star shortstop back in 2026 and beyond, and they have already shown this offseason that they are not afraid to spend. This past week, Toronto signed starting pitcher Dylan Cease to a seven-year, $210 million contract to bolster the rotation.
Now, all the attention turns to Bichette, who is reportedly interested in a return.
“Bichette has said all along that he wants to stay in Toronto,” MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson said. “He wants to remain with the organization that drafted him in 2016 and developed him into an All-Star. He wants to play alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., his longtime friend and co-star. Sentimentality only gets you so far, but the Blue Jays clearly hold some level of a ‘tiebreaker’ here with Bichette if everything else is even.”
Bichette has been with the Blue Jays’ organization throughout his professional career. He was selected in the second round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
“The interest here is mutual and the player fits a clear need, making this a sensible reunion on all fronts, even when you put emotion to the side,” Matheson said.
While he has drawn interest around the league so far this offseason, a reunion with the Blue Jays is very much on the table.
