New assistant hitting coach Cody Asche and first base coach Anthony Sanders were hired from the Baltimore Orioles. Billy Boyer was promoted internally to take the role of MLB quality coach.
They replace Keith Beauregard, Anthony Iapoce and Gary Jones, who will not return to the staff in 2026.
Here’s the Tigers’ updated coaching roster:
Manager – A.J. Hinch
Bench Coach – George Lombard
Pitching Coach – Chris Fetter
Assistant Pitching Coach – Robin Lund
Assistant Pitching Coach – Juan Nieves
Hitting Coach – Michael Brdar
Assistant Hitting Coach – Lance Zawadzki
Assistant Hitting Coach – Cody Asche
Major League Quality Coach – Billy Boyer
First Base Coach – Anthony Sanders
Third Base Coach – Joey Cora
Catching Coach – Ryan Sienko
Hinch, who agreed to a second contract extension earlier this year, is entering his sixth season as the Tigers’ manager. Three coaches have been with him since the beginning of his tenure: Lombard, Fetter and Nieves.
Asche, 35, spent the past three seasons in Baltimore’s big-league staff. Sanders, 51, had been the Orioles’ first-base coach for the last six seasons.
The Orioles recently hired Cleveland Guardians bench coach Craig Albernaz as manager, and he has begun hiring his own coaches.
Asche played in parts of five MLB seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies (2013-16) and Chicago White Sox (2017) and got his start in coaching in the Phillies’ system in 2021.
Before joining Baltimore, Sanders spent 13 seasons as a coach, manager and coordinator in the Colorado Rockies’ minor-league system. He reached the big leagues as a player with the Toronto Blue Jays (1999) and Seattle Mariners (2000-01) and won a Gold Medal with Team USA at the 2000 Summer Olympic Games.
Boyer, 41, served as the Tigers’ minor-league field coordinator and infield coordinator in 2025. He previously served as Detroit’s infield coordinator in 2022 before spending one season as an assistant coach with the University of Washington in 2023. Prior to that, Boyer was a minor league infield and baserunning coordinator with the Minnesota Twins (2019-21) and an assistant coach with Seattle University (2018).
Beauregard, 42, spent three seasons with the Tigers. He was a minor-league hitting instructor for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019-2020 and then assistant field coordinator in 2021-2022. Before that, he was an assistant coach at Santa Clara University and the University of Massachusetts at Lowell.
Iapoce, 52, joined the Tigers’ major-league staff in 2024 after managing Triple-A Toledo in 2023. He previously served as the Boston Red Sox’s senior hitting coordinator in 2022 and spent six seasons as a big-league hitting coach with the Chicago Cubs (2019–21) and Texas Rangers (2016–18).
Jones, who turns 65 this week, was originally hired to manage the Toledo Mud Hens but joined the major-league staff in 2022 after the death of Kimera Bartee.
Jones has a long career as a coach and manager, including a stint as manager of Triple-A Edmonton in which he managed Hinch.
The Tigers also announced some front office moves.
Georgia Giblin has been promoted to Vice President, Health and Performance. The club said she “will lead all the organization’s health and performance teams in driving a fully comprehensive approach to the health and development of players.”
A native of Australia, Giblin has spent five years in the Tigers organization. She completed her doctorate in Biomechanics and Skill Acquisition at Victoria University in Melbourne and earlier spent four years with the Australian softball, track and field, triathlon, and archery Olympic programs as a biochemist at the Queensland Academy of Sport.
Alex Smith was named Vice President, Baseball Strategy, after spending 11 seasons in a variety of roles with the Chicago Cubs, most recently as Major League strategy coach.
Christian Hook was promoted to Director, Pitching Evaluation. Hook joined the Tigers in 2022 from Driveline and in his new role will “drive comprehensive pitching evaluation across the Tigers organization,” the team’s release said.
Brad Ciolek was hired as Director, International Scouting, after serving as the senior director of amateur scouting for the Washington Nationals for the past two seasons. Earlier, he spent 11 years in the Baltimore Orioles organization.
Longtime international leader Tom Moore will transition to a senior adviser role for international operations. The team said he will continue to be active in the current Dominican Republic Academy construction project and staff development.
Theo Hooper was named Assistant Director, Amateur Scouting, after spending four seasons as a Major League staff assistant with the Texas Rangers.
