It’s no secret that Toronto Blue Jays fans would love to see the team bring back as many players from their 2025 team as possible, including Bo Bichette, for another run in 2026. Unfortunately, that likely won’t be the case, and because of that, the Blue Jays will need to add. With MLB Free Agency now a few days old, it’s time to look at a few ideal candidates for the Blue Jays this offseason.
This year’s free agent class has some big-name pitchers who could help the Jays, especially in the bullpen, which was the weakest part of their team. But there are also some fielders that could be of interest to the club and would fit in nicely with their platoon style.

3 ideal free agent targets the Blue Jays should consider going after this offseason
1. Edwin Diaz – Relief Pitcher
Diaz is arguably one of the best relief pitchers in the game and offers a lot of what the Blue Jays need. Yes, they have Jeff Hoffman as their closer, but they could use another power arm in the bullpen that can be trusted in high-leverage situations. The only box he doesn’t check is that he isn’t a lefty.
Do you think Edwin Díaz will return to the Mets?

Diaz, 32, had a 1.63 ERA in 66.1 innings pitched. He also went 6-3 and recorded 28 saves. If he signed with the Blue Jays, he and Hoffman would likely have an internal competition to determine the closer role.
But with Diaz carrying the reputation as one of the best in the league, he’d probably earn the job, leaving Hoffman in the eighth-inning spot. Adding Diaz to the roster could end up being the biggest move of the offseason, which seems to be one of the team’s top priorities according to general manager Ross Atkins in his latest press conference.
2. Luis Arràez – INF
Another player the Blue Jays should target is Luis Arràez. He’s known for his hitting ability and can put the ball just about anywhere on the field. He’d also fit well as an Isiah Kiner-Falefa replacement. This past playoff run, we saw Kiner-Falefa used mostly as a defensive replacement, but he struggled at the plate.
Arràez can play a handful of positions (1B, 2B, 3B), though he’s stronger offensively than defensively. The biggest benefit to adding him would be his ability to consistently put the bat on the ball and get on base.

Arraez, 28, is coming off a strong season with the San Diego Padres. In 620 at-bats, he had 181 hits, a .292 batting average, eight home runs, 61 RBIs, and 66 runs scored. He’s a three-time batting champion, with his career high in hits being 203. He’d quickly become a steady and reliable bat in the Blue Jays’ lineup.
3. Willi Castro – INF/OF
Lastly, there’s Willi Castro, who might be the ultimate utility man. He can play pretty much anywhere on the field aside from catcher. And while he’s not the strongest defensively, his versatility makes him an attractive option for a team like the Blue Jays. This season, they’ve shown how much they value a platoon-style lineup. Castro would fit that perfectly, giving them the ability to move him around the diamond as needed.
At the plate, he’s not the most dangerous hitter, but he can hold his own. Last season, he split time between the Minnesota Twins and the Chicago Cubs, picking up 91 hits in 402 at-bats for a .226 average. He also had 11 home runs, 33 RBIs, and 58 runs scored, along with 10 stolen bases. His stat line might not jump off the page, but his role would be an important one. Castro’s flexibility and experience would make him a solid depth piece for the Jays lineup.
