The Royal Family is once again engulfed in controversy following explosive new claims that Prince William allegedly threatened to remove Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie’s royal titles unless their father, Prince Andrew, and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson agreed to vacate Royal Lodge, their longtime Windsor residence.
According to journalist Emily Maitlis, who famously conducted the 2019 Newsnight interview with Andrew, the Prince of Wales may have held a tense private discussion with his cousins. Speaking on The News Agents podcast, Maitlis said, “There was a question over whether there had been, earlier in the day, a meeting between Prince William and the princesses, saying you guys have to get your dad to move out of Royal Lodge — otherwise, we will start re-examining the state of your own titles.”
While William does not hold the authority to remove titles — a power reserved for Parliament — Maitlis suggested the threat symbolized the immense pressure being placed on Andrew’s family to comply. Buckingham Palace has not confirmed whether the meeting took place.
The scandal surrounding the disgraced Duke of York continues to cast a long shadow over the monarchy. Prince Andrew has lived at Royal Lodge, a 30-room mansion on the Crown Estate, since 2008 — paying what many critics call a “peppercorn rent.” Despite relinquishing his public duties and royal titles following his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Andrew has resisted calls to move out.
Recent revelations have further intensified scrutiny. Reports claim that Andrew hosted Epstein, Ghislaine Maxwell, and Harvey Weinstein at Royal Lodge for Princess Beatrice’s 18th birthday party in 2006 — just weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for Epstein in the United States. The event has resurfaced as a shocking symbol of Andrew’s poor judgment and the family’s growing discomfort with his continued royal privileges.
Both Maxwell and Weinstein are now serving prison sentences — Maxwell for her role in Epstein’s abuse network and Weinstein for sexual assault convictions in both New York and Los Angeles. Their presence at the Windsor event has only amplified the sense of scandal surrounding the Duke of York.
King Charles reportedly planned to meet Andrew at Royal Lodge upon his return from the Vatican to “read the riot act,” though the meeting was later cancelled. Royal insiders say Charles and William are determined to end the “Royal Lodge standoff” to protect the monarchy’s reputation.
As Andrew and Ferguson reluctantly prepare to leave, they are said to be negotiating for alternative royal residences — with Frogmore Cottage, formerly home to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Adelaide Cottage, where William and Kate currently reside, both under discussion.

Whether this quiet power struggle marks the end of Andrew’s royal chapter remains uncertain — but one thing is clear: the shadow of Epstein still haunts the House of Windsor, and even the King’s own brother may soon find himself with no place left to call royal home.
