The WNBA regular season will soon come to an end, marking the conclusion of Brittney Griner’s first season with the Atlanta Dream.
Griner has found success with the Dream while playing under coach Karl Smesko. The WNBA star has benefited from playing alongside Rhyne Howard and WNBA MVP candidate Allisha Gray.

Griner had a history of playing overseas during the offseason of her early career, but has not done so since her 2022 arrest and imprisonment in Russia. This past offseason, she took part in the Unrivaled League, a 3 on 3 league founded by WNBA players Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
Unrivaled, which conducted its first season with six teams playing in Miami this year, announced two pieces of news on Monday (Sept. 8). First, it announced the completion of an oversubscribed Series B investment round that included new investors and additional funding from some previous investors. Second, the league disclosed its valuation had been set at $340 million.
Griner reposted the announcement on social media with two eyes emojis, seemingly excited for the news.

Griner took part in the Unrivaled League’s first season. She played for the Phantom BC team along with Satou Sabally, Natasha Cloud and Sabrina Ionescu among others.
Throughout her first season with the Atlanta Dream, Brittney Griner has averaged 9.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game.
Griner started a majority of the games for the Dream, especially in the first half of the season. Since suffering a neck injury that kept her out for several games, Griner has been coming off the bench and playing limited minutes, backing up Brionna Jones.
