David’s November 20 World News Tonight episode was full of ‘horrifying’ breaking news updates, including one about a devastating fire at the COP30 summit in Brazil
ABC viewers are sharing their concern and upset after David Muir made a frightening news announcement during his World News Tonight show.

Speaking on November 20, David revealed that 13 people had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at the COP30 summit in Bélem, Brazil.
Sharing footage of the horrific fire which can be seen engulfing a conference center, The 59-year-old anchor told viewers, “A raging fire inside the UN climate summit in Brazil. Take a look, people running to escape the blaze burning through pavilions. 13 people treated for smoke inhalation. They believe electrical equipment may be to blame here.”

The inferno, which occurred on Wednesday, happened as negotiators were attempting to land a deal to strengthen international efforts to address the climate crisis. The fire was brought under control in minutes, with the summit’s venue being quickly evacuated.
The UN organizer put out a statement following the blaze, saying, “Earlier today, a fire broke out in the blue zone of the Cop30 venue in Belém. The fire department and UN security officers responded swiftly, and the fire was controlled in approximately six minutes. People were evacuated safely.

“Thirteen individuals were treated on site for smoke inhalation. Their condition is being monitored, and appropriate medical support has been provided.”
Viewers were quick to share their thoughts on the devastation, with one person writing, “Thank you, David, for keeping us in the loop on what’s going on around the world. We appreciate all you do for us in times of need.”
A second person also added, “I will pray for all in this video,” underneath a clip of the newscast, with a third penning, “WTF IS GOING ON?????”
However, David also shared other upsetting news updates with ABC viewers on Thursday’s show, including one about a plane crash that killed 14 people.
The 52-year-old journalist shared that footage had been released of a UPS plane crashing and exploding in Louisville, Kentucky. The images show the engine coming off the plane moments before it went down, with flames seen coming from the left wing as it left the runway.
As images popped up on screen, David said, “You can see the engine breaking apart, that engine clearly separating from the wing, the fire spreading.”
ABC correspondent Mola Lenghi covered the story, sharing a video of the moment the plane exploded, telling viewers, “Flight 2976 never got more than 30 feet off the ground before it crashed into a petroleum recycling plant and a scrapyard.”
Mola then revealed that 14 people, made up of three crew and 11 on the ground, were killed in the crash, adding that the “trail of destruction” left by the explosion is “half-a-mile long.”
Viewers took to social media to share their thoughts on the crash, with one penning, “Soooo heartbreaking,” and another admitting the broadcast was “not easy to watch.”
