The journalist then introduced meteorologist Dani Beckstrom, reporting from New York City. Dani revealed that in addition to the snow, there is also “a rain event” in the Pacific Northwest, where there is a risk of flooding on Friday.

She revealed that below-zero wind chills are currently gripping parts of the Upper Midwest, with freezing temperatures expected to continue into this week. The segment was shared on Instagram with the caption, “Snow is winding down across the Great Lakes and Northeast, but another Arctic blast has settled in behind it. Below-zero wind chills are gripping parts of the Upper Midwest. @danibeckstrom has the latest.
After the report was shared on Instagram by the official ABC account, many viewers expressed their concerns for homeless people and for animals out in the cold. “Oh Lord help the homeless to find shelter and keep safe. Oh Lord you are prayers,” a viewer commented.
“All I think about are the poor animals outside and neglected,” another said. “Thank you for the forecast Dani! We shall try to stay warm!” a third wrote.

The National Weather Service warns that the sharp cool-down that started on late Sunday will usher in a consistently frigid week, broken up by gusty winds, midweek precipitation, and the possibility of additional Arctic bursts. A strong cold front sweeping across New Jersey is expected to trigger a significant temperature plunge early Monday, accompanied by wind gusts reaching 25 to 40 mph.
Northwestern New Jersey may see a few snow flurries as the front moves through. The arrival of Arctic air will send overnight lows Monday into Tuesday into the single digits across the northwest, with teens elsewhere and slightly milder conditions along the Jersey Shore, where readings will hover near 20 to 25 degrees.

AccuWeather long-range meteorologists said more cold waves could hit the country after the recent freezing conditions due to the polar vortex, a large upper-level, low-pressure area or circulation that typically resides above the Arctic Circle. When the vortex is strong, it tends to keep the coldest air in the Northern Hemisphere locked up over the pole, but when it weakens, it allows frigid air to move southwards.
AccuWeather lead long-range meteorologist Paul Pastelok said, “The polar vortex has been in a weakened and stretched state since late November. We are seeing the result as Arctic air pushes southward across the central and eastern US in recent days and may continue to do so for the next couple of weeks or so in waves.”
