David Muir reported an anxiety-inducing news story that thankfully had a happy ending on his ABC News show, World News Tonight.

Later in the World News Tonight episode that aired on December 11, the 52-year-old television personality shared details about a skydiver who had a near-fatal accident while skydiving. Before David passed the segment over to William Reeve, 33, he informed viewers that a skydiver had accidentally opened his parachute prematurely.

“We turn tonight to heart-pounding images, 15,000 feet in the air, a skydiver’s parachute accidentally opening early, leaving him dangling from the tail of a plane,” David reported. David then explained that “other divers were then told to jump” before transitioning to William, to have him expound on what “the dangling diver then did.”

William went on to report that the diver’s parachute had hooked onto a part of the plane, causing it to open and yank him back into the sky. Accompanying his report was footage that showed the diver’s prematurely opened parachute wrapping around the back of the plane, causing him to be suspended in the air until other divers jumped to assist him.
Recently, David has covered a range of topics, including news about Luigi Mangione and ongoing tensions between Venezuela and the United States.
For last night’s show (December 10), he kicked off the show reporting on the continuous tension between the United States and Venezuela.
“Good evening. We do begin here tonight with the breaking news of the U.S. with a major escalation in its showdown with Venezuela,” David reported, before continuing that “The U.S. Coast Guard seized an oil tanker just off the Venezuelan coast.”

David continued reporting on the dramatic incident, stating on air, “Late [Wednesday] the Trump administration releasing dramatic images showing Navy helicopters flying in, [and] heavily armed Coast Guard forces [propelling] on to the deck guns drawn as they swarm the ship. “
Once David provided some details about the showdown between the U.S. and Venezuela, he introduced news correspondent Martha Raddatz, 72, to fill viewers in even more.

Martha gave a detailed report of the troops that stormed the oil tanker, and even brought Trump into the mix as she explained the current battle between him and Venezuelan president Nicholas Maduro, 63. She even warned David about the seriousness of Trump’s latest move.
“David make no mistake the U.S. seizure of that oil tanker off Venezuela is a significant escalation. You saw those images of the U.S. Navy helicopters storming that tanker,” she explained. “The US now has 15,000 forces in the region.”
