David Muir broke into his broadcast with an alarming message as he warned viewers about a stand-off between the President and members of Congress over inciting violence
David Muir quickly alerted World News Tonight viewers to a major breaking story on November 20, as he immediately started off his broadcast with a warning about President Donald Trump’s message for Democratic lawmakers whom he labeled as “traitors.”
Muir’s broadcast saw him bringing news to those who tuned in to the ABC show of a major conflict which developed during the day, as a stand-off took place between Democratic lawmakers who were also armed services veterans and the President.

And while Muir previously left his viewers “baffled” with a “ridiculous” breaking news update, this one likely caught more attention, as it detailed a major concern of many over the potential that the situation could incite violence.

The story concerned a video put out by six Democratic lawmakers for servicemen and women–and the President’s reaction which saw rebuke from both sides of the political aisle.

“Tonight, the White House sialing back President Trump’s own words today, the President calling several Democrats in Congress, most of them veterans, traitors in a post, and then, in another post, saying this is punishable by death, after they put out a video telling service members they can refuse, quote, illegal orders,” Muir solemnly reported.
“The White House was asked in this environment, what is the president suggesting?” Muir asked, before turning things over to Rachel Scott.

“Tonight, President Trump was criticized by members of both parties, after calling six Democratic members of Congress quoe, traitors, and accusing them of seditious behavior punishable by death,” she reported. “It came in response to a video released by the lawmakers, all of whom served in the military or US intelligence.”
Scott then shared the video, which didn’t specify what orders the video was referring to, before detailing the President’s response.
“But the President, enraged, posted a flurry of messages on social media, saying they should be ‘arrested and put on trial. Their words cannot be allowed to stand,’ adding ‘an example must be st.’ The President then writing ‘seditious behavior punishable by death.’ And he reposted a message from another account that read, ‘Hang them. George Washington would.’”
Scott then shared that Democrats were accusing the President of inciting violence, with Senator Chris Murphy saying that many were now beefing up their security, with a Republican response also noted.
Scott showed herself speaking to House Speaker Mike Johnson, who said he didn’t agree with the exact words the president used, while Senator Rand Paul also condemned the rhetoric, saying it could “stir up” ideas that shouldn’t be encouraged.
The report then cut to the official White House response via Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, as she was asked point-blank if the President wanted to execute members of Congress, something she denied, before saying that the Democrats in the video were the ones who incited violence.
“They’re literally saying to 1.3 million active duty service members to defy the chain of command!” she said.
She then spoke to Congressman Jason Crow, who was in the video, as he said he wouldn’t let “fear and intimidation” stop him.
The report concluded with Scott providing a bit more insight into the motivation behind the clip.
“In that video, Democrats cited what they call threats to the Constitution, insisting that the Trump Administration is pitting our military against American citizens, but they did not provide any specific examples,” she said. “Congressman Crow telling me they felt the need to start a conversation after the President made what he called disturbing statements.”
