David Muir interrupted ABC World News Tonight for a harrowing update on an infamous attempted murder case that happened over a decade ago but it left viewers feeling on edge
It was a tense watch for ABC World News Tonight viewers on Monday’s (November 24) episode as host David Muir delivered a terrifying update on a decades-old attempted murder.

After making a return to the long-running ABC News show following a few days off, the 52-year-old journalist halted the show to announce, “The chilling case that made national headlines, the Slender Man case. Overnight, we learned a young woman who, years ago, stabbed a classmate 19 times in the woods, was on the run after cutting off her ankle bracelet.”
“Late today, new body camera video just released showing her arrest. Here’s ABC’s. Alex Perez, tonight. Tonight,” David continued, as he handed over to his colleague reporting live from the scene.

Alex then began his report explaining, “New body camera video showing the moment Morgan Geyser, convicted of brutally stabbing her classmate 19 times as she tried to crawl away in the woods in the infamous Slender Man case, was arrested after escaping from a group home in Wisconsin.” He added, “She seemed very nervous. She simply told the officer, ‘Here’s my real name. You can Google me, and you’ll find out why.”

Alex said, “Police say Geyser cut off her ankle monitoring bracelet on Saturday before fleeing on a bus with a 42-year-old friend she met at church. Officers tracking them to a truck stop about 165 miles away near Chicago, where they were sleeping on the ground. At first, refusing to give her real name.

“Morgan Geyser was convicted with her friend Anissa Weier of luring Payton Leutner into the woods in 2014, stabbing her 19 times. They said they did it to please the fictional online character Slender Man.”
“Geyser was sentenced to 40 years in a mental institution, but was recently allowed to move into a group home in 2019. Peyton told David she didn’t fear her attackers being released,” Alex went on as a clip of David’s interview with the victim, then played.
David asked Peyton, “Do you fear for the day that either one of them is back out in the community?” referring to Geyser and Weier, to which she replied, “No, because they ever come near me, they’re going right back in so you don’t walk around with that. No, when they get out, I don’t think it’s going to change my life at all.”
The shocking news segment was shared to ABC World News Tonight’s Instagram account with the caption, “Morgan Geyser, who stabbed a classmate 19 times when she was 12 years old in the infamous “Slender Man” case, was arrested after escaping a group home by cutting her ankle monitor. Officials located her nearly 165 miles away. @perezreports reports.”
And it didn’t take viewers long to weigh in on the update, with one user commenting, “Jail? This is messed up,” with a second echoing, “Ankle bracelet? What in the hell she doing even OUT? This the s–t people be talking about….”
“That was a nice tender and loving take down for someone who stabbed someone 19 times. They didn’t think their life was in danger?” someone else pointed out.
While a fourth viewer fumed, “She should still be behind bars. Doesn’t deserve to see the light of day!” and another went as far as to say, “Literally got away with murder.” Elsewhere in the comments, a sixth user said, “Damn girl LIVED after this!?! Amazing!” refering to the victim Peyton.
